From: "Bruce Horkings" <bruce@nmit.vic.edu.au> Date: Tue, 6 Aug 1996 18:23:58 -1000 Subject: Disc Brake Conversion Kit G'Day, I own a 1978 SIII 5 door LR and as I am young, foolish and have money to burn (a little bit anyway) I have started to corrupt my poor Landie by converting it to a worked Holden engine (unleaded 202) and a 5 speed gear box. I'm also intrested in a Disk Brake conversion kit, if anyone could give me any information regarding this I would be very grateful. Thankin you kindly from my always Grease ridden finger tips!! From: bigbear@hutch.com.au Date: Mon, 12 Aug 1996 11:35:19 -0700 Subject: Too Slow Hello out there, I'm very new to all this (internet that is) but here goes... My Series 2A swb has been re-powered with a Leyland P76 V8. We all know a Landie will climb a gum tree, but with this much grunt I can do it in high 4th. Downside is the engine sounds very busy when cruising on highways and I'm always reaching down to change to a higher gear....which just isn't there. Given all the negatives I've heard about Fairey overdrives (not the least of which would be having to forgo my PTO), I'm seeking other solutions. I feel that it should be possible to change the high range gearing in the transfer box to provide longer legs. Does anyone know if this is possible/viable? I'd be pleased to receive your advice and/or comments. Hope you can afford the spare half-shafts and diffs 8-) The easiest thing to do may be to replace the diffs with range rover units which bolt straight in. Some places offer high range diff conversions if you feel that 3.5:1 would be too tall. Overdrives are pretty versatile but would a Fairey take the torque of the V8 without falling to bits? Changing the high range cog in the transfer case would be the best solution as you would still retain the stump pulling low ratio, but I don't know off hand if such a replacement cog exists. Cheers.
