From: Hegarty Lindsay <Lindsay.Hegarty@dnr.qld.gov.au> Subject: Child Seat Restraint Points in early RR's Date: Mon, 4 Nov 1996 10:56:30 +1000 Hello all, Moving from the tyres to the inside of the vehicle for a moment...... I would appreciate any help with the following questions: QUESTION 1) I wish to add a child seat to the rear of my 1983 Range Rover (4 door). This model did not come with any seat anchor points. Sure I could make an anchor point myself, but I want it to be "above board" and Dept of Transport approved for insurance liability purposes. So far my investigations have had a few set backs. Last week I booked the car into a local (Brisbane) company who assured me over the phone that they could fit an approved "Crab Bar" (a bar that bolts to either side of the waist rail just behind the rear seat). After 2 hours of trying, along with a couple of new holes I didn't have before, they gave up. I won't be recommending them to anyone on the list. Further investigations to date have revealed that a Crab Bar cannot be fitted legally to the Range Rover, rather the only legal option is a "Restraint Post" ($190 fitted and with compliance plate). This is a braced vertical post mounted through the floor of the cargo area. The only problem with the post idea is that a fair bit of the cargo area is taken up with the post. Sure it can be folded down when not in use, but it will have constant use in my car so where will the 2 large dogs fit? Any ideas? QUESTION 2) On the subject of dogs. Does anyone know where I can get a reasonably cheap dog barrier for a Ragne Rover. I don't want a floor to roof cargo barrier ($350) just a barrier that extends from the top of the rear seat to the roof to stop the dogs licking the baby's face. I was talking to a local offroad outlet who specialise in Rover and he said that he had seen heavy duty plastic barriers that could be easily removed, but he did not know where to get them. I am hoping to pay less than $150. Any ideas? Thanks.....Lindsay Brisbane - Queensland ------------------------------[ <- Message 2 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 961111 -> | Search Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

Subject: FS: 1984 109 HT in Christchurch, NZ
Hi LR owners,
I need to sell my 1984 ex-RNZAF (only tarmac use) 109 3dr HT. It
has the original 2.25 petrol and a LPG unit with an 80 litre tank.
The truck is in pristine condition with an exceptional interior,
exterior and chassis. It has 108,000ks and I'm the third owner.
It is white/white with good (60%) 7.50 16 tyres. I'm asking NZ$8,000
Please phone or send me a note if you have any questions or want to
see the vehicle.

They may be worth checking out. I'll have to go to the local library and riffle through back issues of 4WD Overlander mag for the article. Also in Land Rover Owner International (August 1996), there was an article on conversion of a later RR LSE to a 6.2 GM diesel. If you can't locate the article, email me and I can photocopy and fax or mail it to you. Apparently the 6.2 goes in very nicely. Date: Wed, 6 Nov 1996 15:34:44 +1100 (EST) From: Doug McPherson <haystack@netspace.net.au> Subject: Steering 'looseness' Hi all. I've just taken my new 110 for a trip down to Gippsland (300km), and it needs some work on the steering !! At speed its very 'floaty', and steering corrections seem to take time to have their effect. Most disconcerting, but still drivable, you just need to start cornering before you hit a corner. I don't expect the 110 to steer like a sports car, but I think this is ab-normal. So 1) How do your 110's steer. I know you can't really describe it in words, but how much correction does it take to drive at 100kmh ? 2) Which bits to do first ? The upper A-frame bushes seem stuffed (rear-axle side location I assume), so I'll start there. Which other bushes to start on next ? I'll probably do most of the back end anyway, since I'll have most of it off to do the top bushes. Polybushes: The general consensus seemed to be that polybushes don't really do much for a 110, and that ordinary OEM bushes are the best to use, so I'll probably use original ones. Thanks in advance, Doug. PS: the truck was remarkably quiet on the highway. I'm used to a Renault Virage (late model R12), and I'd say the 110 wasn't much noisier than that, even with the BFG M/T's, so that's a good thing. ------------------------------[ <- Message 8 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 961111 -> | Search Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

It is showing 35 thou miles on the clock but he says it is second time around. He says the motor is in ok running order and rest of it is quite tidy. Anybody care to venture an idea of its value? he is willing to sell it but wants me to come up with a "fair" price!!! I have owned an '87 RR Vogue EFI the last 4 years but have never owned a LR.
