Subject: LR fuel tank

The fuel tank on the rear of my Isuzu diesel 110 had a leak so I
organised with an engineering firm to make me a new one. They cut
out the piece on the side which holds the fuel pick up and guage
sender - they then wrecked it trying to weld it into the new tank

1 - does anyone have a wrecked 110 fuel tank with the 'bayonet'
fitting on the side?

2 - Does any one have an old landy tank with the 'bayonet' fitting?

3 - Does anyone know if the fitting is the same on any other type of
vehicle that I might find at the wreckers (eg rangie)?

Thanks for your help in anticipation

thanks for the information received re 110 fuel tanks, i learnt the
following:

they are the same as the earlier Range Rover tanks (not the later
plastic ones (although I wonder if a later plasic one would fit if a
replacement whole tank was needed?))

Specific sssistance was provided by provided by four-wheel drives in
Blackburn (so I'll greatfully give them a plug)

I also found one by ringing around a few other contacts

Thanks for your help I have to pick it up tomorrow, get it too the
engineer so that I can get the car backtogether by Xmas

Merry Christmas all

Well, the warranty on this 1995 5 speed V8 Disco is up (50,500 km) and no
time is lost in the vehicle reminding me of the fact.

Issue #1
While driving around sunny Sydney this morning a strange thing happened
twice when taking off from the lights. When taking off in first and almost
enough revs to change up to second, simultaneously a big clunk was heard
from the box and a feeling that everything locked up for a second, with a
little screech from the tyres. Instant reaction was to de-clutch, then
change to second. No problem. This then happened again a 30 minutes later.
Since then it's been OK. Any ideas? I've driving to Adelaide on Monday
(1400Km) and would prefer not to have the box die in the middle of nowhere,
especially as it sounds potentially expensive and this is the season that
mechanics are scarce.

Issue #2
The dashboard is suddenly delaminating at the centre facing the vent near
the screen. Any ideas for the right glue/procedure to use to fix this? The
material seems pretty stiff in the wrong position and will need some
convincing to stay down.

Happy festive time all.....

Peter

Peter,

not too sure of the exact setup of the '95 Disco box. Do you have a viscous
coupling centre 'diff' arrangement a la Range Rover or an actual locking
diff. Sounds like the diff lock is engaging somehow and you are
consequently getting transmission wind up.

If this is so you should get the problem looked at ASAP, the results could
be *very* expensive. (Sorry to say, whatever the problem is, it sounds
expensive).

Cheers.

Peter, As an ex-employee of the Overseas Telecommunications Commission
(Australia) (OTC) I feel I should advise that you shouldn't write your
phone/fax numbers in that format for international use.

The bracketting of the (0) may prove confusing to overseas readers who may
try to dial it. A call to such a number would attempt to route to a
Tasmanian area code.

The correct format for international use is +61 2 9887 2359
and national use is (02) 9887 2359

The 0 is only used within Australia - it is called an escape code which
allows access to the national trunk network.

Subject: Problem hot starting 110 V8

Hi all,

my 110 V8 doesn't like starting when hot, especially on gas.

Starts OK cold, but doesn't even seem to fire when cranking when hot. I
have to switch to petrol, then start it. It still needs a few cranks !

All the ignition gear is new (except the dizzy itself). Any ideas ?

Also, you may recall my 'wandering' steering. Replaced back suspension
bushes, helped reduce sway considerably, but still vague. Steers on
accel/decel. Replaced front bushes (well, had them replaced !) Is good !

It seems that the rear of the raduius arms were moving enough that the axle
twists on accel/decel, causing slight steering. Feels much better around
town, I'll find out what the highway is like over Xmas.

And finally, anyone buying a second hand 4 spd 110/Rangie, drain your
gearbox/ tcase oil as soon as you get it. Some nerk has probably put Hypoid
in it ! I know they did with mine. The shift is much nicer with clean 20w50
than murky EP80 too. Hopefully the EP hasn't been there too long and
knackered the shims ,blocking the oil ways with the residue. This is
apparently what happens.

Merry Christmas !

Doug.
