I'm going to get my winch mount over there when there on biz. Full racks for defenders are minimal cost over there, problem is you have pay to shipping. Most of the time you save $$$ and $1800 for a rack, would be a ton of savings, even with shipping. What type of rack are you looking for ? Gosh, Mark, for that much money, I could *almost* buy one of the new LRNA Roof Rack options for the Defender - I think they're about $1800 - for a darned roof rack!! We sure have expensive toys! Hopefully, more accessories will become available that are not so expensive ..... Thanks David. Your rainage stories are giving me spirit, hope, and desire to
give it a try. I gotta get one o' them hats, too. Actuallly, Barnett needs
one, his D90 is that "in your face" AA YELLOW. Mine is "gimme a ticket"
Red.
Though we got another cold shot here, it was -0.9 deg F last night, spring
is very very very very very close, I can just tell. I can feel it, I can
hope for it, I can imagine it, I can...
John. ("is spring here yet?")

But after the synthetic diff switch I simply noticed a very substantial decrease in rolling resistance at cold temps. And this was my whole reason really. As far as the engine, I figured the synthetics would get oil thru the engine more quickly at the low temps, and again, it worked for that too. Mine is "gimme a ticket" > Red. John: This talk of Spring is *infectious* - yesterday it was sunny and in the 50's here - I seriously thought of taking the top of the D90 (mine is "if it's not garaged, and it is in Seattle, it must be moss" Green). I left the top on, and today it is....rainy, but still warm. Soon, soon... I spent *too* much time today working on the '66 Scout. I had the carb. rebuilt, because it ran so badly, even after new plugs, spark wires, and the best tune-up I could manage. I added an in-line filter with an old AC glass sediment bowl, and rented a "double flare" tool. As seems to be typical, what I thought would take a couple of hours took all day. But, the thing runs - at least well enough to get me and my bike to the bike trail for commuting to work. I know you've been out of the state a while, but if you think about it , you'll rember that Wisconsin has a way of making longing for spring feel like the search for the holy grail. They key is expectations. Forget March - consider it winter. Any nice weather that comes along consider freakish. In April it is O.K. to display guarded optimism, but remain cynical. That way, when an eight inch snow is followed by temps in the teens and a two week long gradual warm up, you won;t feel personally offended. May. Two whole months away. Now that 's spring. Looking forward to checking out your Defender. I think it was sparked off by someone saying "I'm thinking of buying a diesel series III, waadya think." For a couple of weeks things escalated to a quite heated debate (to put it mildly!). The only conclusion was that the engines run on different fuel and have different benefits & drawbacks. Notice how careful I am being not to appear on either side of the fence. What about bringing LPG gas conversions into the debate this time. ONLY JOKING!!!!
