I'm planning a trip to the east coast mid April and looking to rent a D90 or
a Disco for a month and drive either around the surrounding states or
towards CO/NM. Willing to rent out of any state surrounding MA. Any rental
agencies have them? On the Web?

Appreciate your pointing me to the right lr______>direction.

How?... did the laws of physics get repealed last week?

If MM is making claims like that, I would worry.

What's Plan B? We have no woods here! Next time James Howard comes to town
in Auguest, we'll go out in his Series III in the desert. At 2 P.M. With
no water.

(I can hear James now..."What did I do?")

Oscar -
I've seen D90s for rent on Martha's Vineyard through Budget Rental.
Evidently, Budget rents "exotic" vehicles at various locations. You might
try calling them (1-800-527-0700). During the off season, the D90 rented
for $100 a day. Good Luck!

I bought my '89 from the original owner, and I also have all the service
records. He replaced them at every 20-25K and I have done about the same
(pad wear goes way up when I tow the ski boat). You say your '88 only has
80K miles. The low miles lead me to believe that it was used usually around
town. I have a friend that drives his BMW 750il around San Francisco (up and
down steep hills) all day. He goes through brake pads every 5K, while
another friend with a 750il drives over 100 miles round trip to San Jose
every day on a freeway with light traffic (280) and he has the original brake
pads on his car with 50K miles.

Did you see the post yesterday about cutting the wire to the diff neutral
switch? I hate my cars to beep at me and I always just pull the plug on the
noisemaker. (I did it on my '89)

Regular unleaded will not make the EFI light come on. You will need to do
the tests to see why the light is on. The shop manual will walk you through
them. To reset the EFI light just disconnect the battery for a few minutes.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR RADIO CODE to reset it or it will not work.

>5) How often do the O2 sensors 'really' need to be replaced? The manual
>states every 82500 miles but the garage I normally use say they likely

I don't get it why Range Rover O2 sensors cost so much. I can get a Bosch O2
sensor for $35 for the BMW, while the RR O2 sensors are $189 EACH! from AB,
more at the dealer. I have over 83K on my RR and it is running fine with the
original O2 sensors. I have a friend who has 150K on a '87 and he has never
put in an O2 sensor. A bad O2 sensor will cause the EFI light to come on.
You will need to do the test to check it.

>6) Here's a couple that would get the old LR crowd moaning (including
>myself)... We have the factory sun roof...Is there a moon roof (smoked
>glass) roof that can be installed? How about adding in a CD player?

I am not 100% sure, but from looking at the sun roof on my '89 seem to be the
exact same size as the moon roof on a neighbors '93LWB. Newer RR's came with
a smoked glass moon roof from the factory. If you get a quote from the
dealer and it can be done post it to the list, I wonder what it would cost.
If you want to keep the stock '88 radio a CD changer with a FM modulator can
be added. For better sound you can get a new radio with a CD changer.

Subject: D90 Directionals

On 1994 D90s, the front directional signals are located in the bumper. This is
very inconvenient when you want to replace the bumper with one with a winch
mount. I have had some trouble finding bumpers with cutouts for these lights.
Does anyone have any experience with converting the lower front parking lights
into directionals, like on U.K. D90s? Or, instead, replacing the plastic bezel
and parking lights with those from a 95 D90? Thanks in advance.

Did call Enterprise (from the Philippines) at 800-325-8007 and was told no
listing for Discos.

Did call Enterprise on CommAv (Boston) and they _did_ have a Disco. The
fellow says one (1) is assigned to certain outlets in MA. The price is
$1,200.00 a month with 3,000 miles free and 0.20/add'l. mile.

Thanks guys.
