I always wondered about making a bracket to fit the tyre on the front
bumper, in the manner of the SAS LRDG Pink Panthers. Low centre of gravity,
no loss of forward vision, and parking in tight spaces is easy!
The new army 90's seem to have their spare mounted on the side of the hard
top behind the B-post.

Cheers!

Jeff and John;

Rovers North does picture a recessed bonnet for Military-types, but that =
Series only. Suppose it would be possible to get a recessed hood for =
military Defenders, or take a closer look at how the Military ones (XD =
models) have their spares mounted.

Anyone from the other side of the pond have any insight?

Bill

Jeff, there is an exact duplicate of this thread running in the parallel

where all this space time contiuum meets the pavement. I will try to =

up a few pertinent notes and ship 'em off your way. But main points are =
the

D90
cool ones, you'd have to modigy the rack. It blocks your vision =

know, I

Possibly you need a recessed hood?? I aint sure on this one.

John, D90 with the mundane spare on teh back rack...ho hum.

There was a recent post or two about RR power window motors being the
same as Mercedes Benz. Any specific models to look for at the salvage
yard? Also, any tips on door disassembly and motor replacement for a
1988 model Rangie? Right front passenger door is the one where motor
seems to be dying. Thanks.

so, why not a RR/Disco auto?

     Oscar,

the seals on my 87 RR steering box have leaked for years. The dealer
said they didn't replace seals because they never seemed to work for
long - as you found out. They wanted to replace the pump - approx $1K
including labour, I decided that I could buy a lot of fluid for that
much money and for the last 3 years have just kept topping up the
     fluid resevoir!

Actually the leak is not that bad otherwise I would replace the box.

I think Rovers North are offering a rebuilt steering box with a
guarantee, that might be worth looking at.

     Mike Lenaghan

Tom,

True, but the D90 spare is located far enough above the ground to avoid
"most" rear end situations. Except maby a semi or full size van etc., but
at that point, in a alum. shell vechicle, I don't think you would care much!

Hi Shaun,

The RR list differs from LRO in that the RR mail you send is simply
forwarded to all the subscribers of the RR list, while with the LRO mail,
it is processed by a program and modified before being forwarded. This
extra step with the LRO list modifies the headers (and edits the content too!)
and in doing so diverts the error replies to the list server, as it assumes
the role of the 'sender' of the mail.

I can change this, but if I do, it will end up being just like the LRO
list, and the mail will be edited for forwarded messages, etc.

	Cheers,
	-Bill

My 89 RR began leaking steering fluid about a year ago. The dealer said
box was leaking and would cost ~$1200 to repair. I took it to a local
chain garage (Dobbs) the mechanic found that the two hose clamps on the
bottom of the fluid reservoir would not adjust tight enough and the fluid
was leaking there and running down to the box. No charge for the two
clamps and no leaking for one year. I don't go near my dealer except for
an occasional part and the fuel tank replacement.

I hope this is the correct address for the LRO-UK, if not please accept my
appologies.
I would like some reaction to the following -
Reading Jeremy Clarkson in last Sundays Times he says "the Range Rover is a
superior vehicle to the big Jeep but I fear the ownership package would
include endless bouts of mardiness, weekly trips to the dealer and fierce
rows about yet another broken gearbox."
"The best off roader in the world, then, is American and it will remain so
until people at Land Rover say to their suppliers 'If you send us one more
faulty part, we are going to burn down your factory'."

re the U.K. report on "big jeep" superiority.

Does anyone on the list have any firsthand experience with taking a
Grand Cherokee into serious off-road conditions? By the way, I got my RR

My vote is leaving it as is, I'll put up with those messages to be able to

Heh, heh, um, no Douglas, indeed I was being as tounge in cheek as I could be

But on the serious side, from what I've learned land rover will bring the
defender back in '97 with a Disco drivetrain, this means an automatic is
available. The reasoning is for the OBDII regs, the engine misfire is harder
with a manual trans, and maybe they are just not gonna spend the effort to
make it work with the manual, I don't know about that, just a guess.

Subject: Disco Tow Point

 To:	RRO List, Inet

On my 95 Disco there is a tow point attached to the left chassis
horn. It is a loop of steel and is bolted to the end of the horn
(using the same bolts as the bumper) and extends through an
opening in the air dam, presumably for easy access, not to be
confused with two tie down loops welded to each side of the frame
which can only be accessed by reaching completely under the
vehicle. (I understand that these are just tie down points and not
strong enough for towing) Question: is the "tow point" extending
through the air dam strong enough to handle towing the vehicle out
of mud etc.? I'm planning on doing some off roading at the end of
April and w/o a winch or tow bumper am pondering what happens if I
get stuck and can only be towed from the front. If the "tow
point" is likely to rip off, tear through the air dam and sale
through the back window of the vehicle doing the towing, where
should one anchor a tow rope to the front of an otherwise
unmodified Disco?

Sometimes it's really hard to figure out what a thread is about when the
