From: JEPurnell@aol.com Date: Sat, 30 Mar 1996 10:51:29 -0500 Subject: Canadian Air Pollution Web Site I found this web site from a search on "auto emissions" and it is for Canada's program like AirCare, and the like. From: PurnellJE@aol.com Date: Sat, 30 Mar 1996 10:52:30 -0500 Subject: Re: D90 Service Report/Lucas and OBDII...run fer the hills! In a message dated 96-03-29 19:10:29 EST, you write: >Please excuse my ignorance (like I not ignorant already!), but on the >94'D90, what are the specifice problems with the Lucas components? [ truncated by lro-digester (was 8 lines)] >Happy Trails!, >Doug Marbourg Well, germaine to the OBDII issue: None. Becasue neither 94s nor 95s have OBDII. They have OBDI, which is why we have that cute little box on teh right side of the dash that looks like a cigarette box (thanks to Rob L. for educating me on this point) that has an LED display on it that tells you what fault code # is present if your yellow check engine light is on. OBDI is a far less complex system than this next generation, and mainly consists of circuit continuity checks and HIGH/LOW voltage checks on key components, like idle control valves. Not too dificult, even Lucas managed that one. (ooohhhh, I'm sorry about that one, it just slipped out...) But really, the most serious problem I remember on this list, has been Rob's relay and no start issue. And that turned out not to be Lucas ECU problem, but a wet/corroded relay? I believe I remember that correctly. So, it seems that Lucas might be OK here, other than the rather light-duty nature of headlight switches and the concern over harness wiring guage size. (I've read email that D90 headlight switches burn, or fall apart. And everyone seems concerned about adding an electrical load to the pre existing harness, seems most use relays.) In fact, that is what I love about the Defender, it is so relatively simple, that good automotive sense will keep you running, barring any obvious component failure. The electronics are pretty minimal and basic. OBDII will crank this up a notch, to the dismay of some, and the happiness of others. Date: Sat, 30 Mar 1996 08:17:50 -0800 From: Michael Carradine <cs@crl.com> Subject: LROA Meeting 3/31/96 LROA Members, This Sunday's meeting, March 31, 1996 at 11 AM will be at Cole European, the Land Rover dealership at 2103 North Main Street in Walnut Creek. The plan is to rally there and move on to a coffee shop in the neighborhood or elsewhere, depending on the number of members that show. On the agenda is the offer and review of a Business Plan and the LROA Organizational Outline for the Bylaws. Both of these draft documents are on a Web page at http://www.crl.com/~cs/lroa.html for your review and comment. For various reasons, the Bylaws Committee has concluded that LROA nonprofit incorporation in Nevada is the most practical and expedient venue for the time being, and hopes that at least this portion of the Business Plan will be adopted. We hope to see you there, Michael Carradine VP pro tem LROA 510-988-0900 cs@crl.com ------------------------------[ <- Message 4 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 960331 -> | Search Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

Good points! So far the new officers have essentially been charged with the responsibilty of maintaining and reorganizing the new LROA. In several meetings the consensus was to direct the Bylaw Committee to incorporate the LROA and provide a structure for all members to participate in LROA activities. To expedite this and get the LROA back into the "LR's are fun" business, we recommend nonprofit Nevada incorporation at this time. To codify and improve the organizational structure of the existing LROA, a draft outline for Bylaws has been prepared based in part on the model of the California Association of 4-WD Clubs Inc. (CA4WD). CA4WD and LROA are associations of clubs with regional divisions. In short, the LROA draft Organizational Outline for Bylaws proposes that members form numerous local clubs, each having a minumum of 4 members. These clubs are then organized regionally to to hold rallies and events across the continent. We believe that members will have their most meaningful enjoyment of Land Rovers and comraderie at at the club and regional level, that's where all the fun is, while still being part of a great continental association with its many benefits. Taking the reorganization process step by step, the draft documents will initially be reviewed by the officers and local members, as well those on the net, and then put forward in the Aluminum Workhorse. Suggestions and comments will then be integrated into final Bylaws and voted on by the membership. The evolution and adoption of Bylaws is time consuming, and can proceed quite independently of incorporation. In the mean time, many of us are anxious to have our LROA involved in activities again, and for that we hope to incorporate now. Soon thereafter we hope to have Bylaws adopted and to test the election process by voting for regional and continental offices.
