Subject: Spark Plugs

Hello ,I've been lurking here for the past week or so . As a newbie 90RR
owner I have really appreciated all the great information I've been
reading. Just a caution on the platinum plugs ( many new cars are going to
them ,that's how in part they are able to go 100,000 mi. without a
tune-up). My mechanic friends suggest loosening the plugs at 30,000 mi.
intervals otherwise they have a tendency to "weld" themselves onto their
place in the cylinder heads. I have Bosch platinum plugs in my 87 merkur
and felt they were a definite improvement. Those who live in the Portland
area could talk with Russ Harness at Rapido Group 503-620-8400 about their
experience with platinum plugs. I realize this is a little off the subject
but both vehicles burn premium fuel. My 90RR is not on the road yet. I
purchased it from the insurance salvage pool . It had suffered what I would
call a light rollover or tipover. Sorry off-roaders I don't have any
details on how it occurred ,just make up your own favorite story.

Subject: Dextron III

I went to pick up a quart of Dextron II (two) ATF today (to top off the Range
Rover PS reservoir) and I was told that it is no longer being made, and I was
told to buy Dextron III (three). Is this new stuff just as good? The 19
year old kid at Kragen said he was told that it is the same but better. I
went to two other auto parts stores and got the same story, it looks like the
Dextron II is no longer available (at least here in CA).

Subject: Range Rover Wood

I have been having a problem with the wood falling off the doors of my Range
Rover. I need to find a glue that will hold the plastic pegs that connect it
to the door to the wood. I fixed two of the doors a couple weeks ago with
Barge all purpose cement. (I also used some thin 3M double stick tape
designed to hold trim on the outside of cars) The Barge cement worked great
until today (the first hot day the Range Rover sat out in the hot sun) The
Barge cement got hot (and soft) and the wood came loose. Any ideas? I am
thinking about using some of the two part epoxy glue I saw in the glue
section of Home Depot. Has any one used that stuff? Do you think it will
hold plastic to wood?

Subject: Tires for the Discovery

Hello everybody,

I'am about to replace my tires for the first time on my disco,
and I'am very disappointed to what can I put in place of my old
but very good Michelin XM+S 244 (205R16).( I precise that I use
them for what they are destined, i.e. Highway, road, rain, snow
and sometimes off-road but not very hard !!! )

- I Know that Michelin offers a completely new (but similar)
tire but, is it really similar ?
- I've heard about a new BFG Long Trail II. Is it a good
place-holder ?
- Is there any advantage to put much larger tires, and is it
possible on my 16" wheels ?

Any remarks or recommendations you can make would be helpful.

Thanks.

Kevin:

I think that I have the perfect stuff for you......3M makes some other
stuff called "3M Trim Adhesive" or something to the order...It comes in a
little tube (4oz or so) and looks like yellow rubber. It sticks
amazingly....I have found it to stick almost everything to
everything.....You should be able to get it at an auto parts store......

BUT be careful! It dries quite quickly (30 secs) and is _impossible_ to
remove when it's dried.......As far as I know, it's the best way to
go......Do not use epoxies. For the most part, they are very brittle in
nature, and usually do not hold up well to col weather, flexing, or any
torsional stress....YMMV

In any event, if you can't find some, let me know, and I'll hunt around
here, or see if I can go home and dig up my tube!
