It sounds like a problem with the fuel injection, the '89 (U.S. Spec.) Range Rover has the Lucas 14CU Multiport Electronic Fuel Injection. This does not read out fault codes (that tell you what component has like the 14CUX that was installed in '90. The Range Rover factory shop manual will take you step by step testing all of the FI components with a multi-meter. If you don't have a shop manual yet and you plan on keeping your RR it will be a good investment. Subject: where to buy what polybushings
Date: Mon, 13 May 1996 09:50:19 +0200 (METDST)
Hello gang,
I'll definitely have to go for new bushings for my 1989 110 Brumml
(can't stand the clonking and rear stearing any more).
What I remember from prefious discussions on this subject is that
poly bushings are better than the original rubber ones.
Now I have some questions:
-Why are they better?
-What brand should I buy?
-Where in Europe (or better Germany) do I get them for the best price?
-Should I fit a whole set or is it ok to do just the rear axle, first.
-Is there any FAQ or good tips about getting the old ones out and the new in?
I just remember something about burning the old ones.
Sorry, if this is old stuff, but I had some problems with my mails
and couldn't read much Land Rover mail.
Thanks,
Franz

Date: Mon, 13 May 1996 07:59:03 -0400 From: Richard Ruffer <rruffer@interserv.com> Subject: D90 Speedo Lights This is a repost from last week. I think it got swallowed by the major. Sorry if people have already seen it. Ever since I bought my D90 the speedometer has been hard to read at night. The right half of the speedo lights up O.K., but the left half doesn't light up at all. I figured that the bulb on the left side must have burnt out, so I opened up the dash. What I found appeared to be (1) an empty plug for a bulb on the left side of the speedo and (2) a wire with a base and bulb hanging loose (the bulb had some sort of blackish goo on it). The bulb and base would not fit into the plug on the speedo, which looked broken. I took it to the dealer who said its not broken, there's only supposed to be one light for the speedo. Is this just a line from a lazy dealer? Is everybody's speedo unreadable at night even with the dash lights flipped to the max strength? Appreciate any insights. Does it installation of ARB air lockers in RR diifs increse the > strength of the unit and if it does what risk does the mod impose on the > axle shafts? Has anyone ever heard of a RR axle shaft breaking? To the last question: No. But I've heard of quite a few diffs, esp. centre diffs, packing up under extreme off-road abuse. As for ARB lockers, they would of course strengthen the axle diffs but put a lot of additional strain on the shafts and the centre diff. Imagine locking both axles but forgetting to lock the centre diff, and then hitting some really bad terrain... no telling how long the centre diff would hold. The V8 has enough power to mangle most anything, including centre diff, tranny and propshaft joints. Personally, I prefer to take my time and winch my way out rather than to gamble a diff or the tranny everytime I get bogged down. Just my opinion. Stefan <Stefan R. It doesn't have any of the gubbins for dimming the instrument lights either. The spare bulb may be for auxilliary instrument illumination; although why it actually has a bulb in is anyone's guess.
