From: GElam30092@aol.com Date: Fri, 31 May 1996 12:27:35 -0400 Subject: Steel. aluminum? Mike writes " Fraid I'm going to have to correct an item here. The bonnet skin is steel, not aluminum, the underlying frame is also steel. The bulkhead and door frames are also steel." Are you referring to the Series III or to a Defender? Or both? Just curious... the only reason I posted that response in the LROI was to get another perspective on hood mounted spares! BTW, Mike, miss the weather here? The high is supposed to be 110 degrees this weekend although the last week has been very mild. I was in your neck of the country over the weekend... tri-cites area of Washington. It will go down fine but going up it sometimes will not respond to the switch. I have found that if I gently push outward on the window it goes up fine. Is this a problem with the motor or with the switch? The driver's side window works fine but the rear windows have not responded on occasion, which makes me suspect the switch or other wiring. Subject: Triumph
Please pardon the non-Land Rover content, but a friend of mine
recently acquired a 1962 Mark I Triumph, racing green. Can anyone recommend
a list for my friend? Is there a Triumph list or British Sports Car list?
Much obliged.

Well next week I'll be departing for Moab for 5 days of superb wheelin'! I'm totally stoked, and hopefully, after the trip my wife will understand the value of lockers F & R. ;^) The trip we are going on is a Bill Burke's (4 Wheeling America) guided trip. This will enable my wife and I a great introduction to slick-rock and professional guidance for trail negotiation. I've always had the idea that I was doing things correctly, but after talking with some "experienced" wheelers who have been instructed by Bill, they report nothing but GREAT skill/trail negotiation improvements. The itinerary will be: Amasa Back trail, Moab Rim, Pritchet Canyon and Golden Spike/Poison Spider. I guess I don't have to worry about the trip being too mild! I'll report when I get back. I do have a few questions for those familiar with the area. Is camping availability near trail heads, or does the Forest Service require "designated" camping areas? God forbid, should something "minor" break, what is the availability of LR parts in/around the town of Moab? (Or in SE Utah in general) What are some of the less obvious must bring items I should carry in the Canyon Lands environment? What is the average temp. in early June? Thanks in advance. I took my wife's Disco out to fill the tank at the local service station and yesterday she asks me where her gas cap is! I must have left it at the pump...checked with the station and there's no sign of it. Anyone know if a generic cap will fit, or if there's a special type? Subject: LRO daily digest - nettiquette
Date: Sat, 1 Jun 96 15:38:10 GMT
Suggestion for all LRO digest contributors:
Whilst most stories and tales of landie/rangie exploits make fascinating reading,
Could I suggest some standard proceedures that would make life a little easier for
most people in trying to read your contribution:
1. DON'T include in YOUR message the text of a message already on the LRO daily
digest - just refer to the message with a couple of words. Otherwise, a reader ends
up reading the same thing time and time again and the list is full of already read
material. This is especially important if you have an email program that
automatically writes something like:
'on XXXXXXX of June, XXXXX wrote:.....'
before your message. So send a message, DON'T just hit 'reply'
Note that LRO daily digest will truncate a lot of this anyway, and what is left
makes not a lot of sense anyway.
2. As far as a signature block goes, people are very inventive. But surely half a
page consisting of 3 attempted renditions of landies/rangies, a quotation or two AND
a name and address is a little over the top, even for an American?
Otherwise, keep writing!!

Europarts, which I've found to have generally good prices, lists it at $257. I have not actually ordered from them, so I don't know how their service is. They list their prices on their web page at www.europartsltd.com. They also have the safari roof rack #LRNA90FSRR listed at $1,444. This rack will fit on a 90SW, I saw it on one at LR's display at the NY auto show. Is this normal? I did notice that the windows go up much faster and smoother if the door is open, so is it just the normal RR fit that is causing some binding or could it be unique to our RR due to some event like needing a new roof (put on by a PO)? BTW, in case people did not know, the RR roofs (and probably allLR roofs) bolt on. They are not welded to the door posts.
