Good Morning,
It seems kind of ironic that the last message I read last week and
printed out was the info on fuel pumps. I got to work this morning, unloaded
my rover and went to move it and she would not start. The rover will crank
over just fine and sounds like it wants to start. At least it has spark.
This sudden failure leads me to believe that the fuel pump has decided to
take a dump. The normal hum of the fuel pump upon turning on the key is no
longer present also. Have I guessed correctly or does anybody else have any
ideas.

When this happened to me, unfortunately at lunch and even more unfortunately up on a trail, it proved to be a wire to the pump that had worked loose. It includes the mounting plate and front recovery/highlift jack points. The mounting plate is predrilled for a X9000 superwinch but the same bolt pattern is used on varoius low profile winches. It is also drilled and tapped to accept the superwinch fairlead. It was a very neat and subtle installation I just like the looks of the ARB bumper. I am asking $185 for the above parts. In addition I am selling the LR brushgaurd that was fitted with the winch. It has been modified by having the lower horozontal tube lowered slightly to allow room for the fairlead. Price for this- $200. I also have a pair of the LR military recovery loops for sale as they will not work with the tank protector I have coming. New from RN they are $45 apiece. After taking it to the local radiator shop for a tank and rodding, I re-installed it. The questions arose when topping off the ATF. If I understand the text, it is to be checked when cold in neutral, at idle. Well, first thing in the a.m. upon driving away, it slipped. I backed up a bit, engaged a lower gear and it moved away, but still slipping somewhat at higher RPM's. I idled in park until normal operating temperature, it drove and shifted (snappy) quite well. My question is: How much oil does the transmission cooler typically carry? Is there a specific methodology for topping off? Air, bleed, obscurity? How difficult can it be? No, there has never been any history of slip at the transmission. Thanx for another gem.
This reminds me of a story that's supposedly true (aren't they all, but
this one was told to me by James Martin):
A major bank in the UK held a Press Conference to announce the
availability
of the first ATM's. The attending journalists asked lots of questions
about
security, encryption, hackers and that kind of thing. Of course, the bank
was well prepared and had all the pet answers.
At the same time, a guy with a Land Rover (translation = Jeep) pulls up
to one of these early ATM's and wraps a chain around the two handles of
the ATM (fitted to help maintenance engineers), attaches the chain to the
tow-bar and yanks the whole bloody unit, cash and all, out of the wall.
After the initial embarrassment resulting from the TV news coverage,
the problem was reported back to the engineers at the company that
manufactured the ATM (according to the story, it was IBM).
After a couple of days of research and analysis, they came up with
a solution that did indeed work:
Specify weaker handles.
There's a moral there, somewhere ..........

Subject: Disco Bike Rack
I finally got around to trying on the bike rack this week and ran into a
problem that maybe someone else who bought the bike rack can help. The
problem is with mounting the rack in the hitch receiver. The rack has a
treaded bolt that is supposed to bolt the rack in the receiver, howerever
the 7/8 bolt head interfers with the slanted metal that is welded as part
of the receiver. The metal is cut out for the pin but with the bolt head
there is no way it will work and there is supposed to be room for a lock to
fit over the bolt. Im thinking there is ethier supposed to be a seperate
hith receiver adapter that is missing or that some serious metal grinding
needs to be accomplished to accomodate the current setup. I find the
latter hard to believe, since you would think they would sell the rack as a
direct bolt on that wouldnt requier any modification to the vehicle.
Any suggestions?
Mel
PS Went to the Artic Circle last week and had a blast. Had so much mud on
the car you could even see the rear lamps. John Dalto hwy is one nasty
