===================

I don't think its a switch problem per se. What could be happening is that
as the window goes up it hits a snag on the window track rail and meets
resistance. If the resistance is hard/strong enough the motor probably cuts
off to avoid being fried.

A shot of tuner cleaner into the offending switch solved this problem
for me.

The largest 'ding' in my RR was caused by me reversing over a wheelbarrow
while using the RR to pull concrete post bases out of the ground. I bought
some land from the farmer next door, and took my old garden fence down. The
posts were bedded in concrete "balls" about 18" in diameter, and after digging
one out by hand I wasn't going to do the other 23 ... I fastened a chain to
the front tow loop, placed a 4x4 wooden beam over the hole, fastened the other
end of the chain to the concrete ball, then backed away, pulling the concrete
vertically out of the ground. Except for the one where I drove over the wheel
barrow.

Sigh.

Noel,

I'm probably one of the most guilty party's in reference to your
"netiquette" post. I must apologies, and partly explain. My only access
is from work, and I'm restricted to the IBM mainframe editor, and mailer
that the company uses. It automatically attaches the 4 line header you
see on this note, and the 4 line trailer. You're right, I often add the
added closing with the 3 LR's drawing, address, etc. and sometimes
forget that in addition to the 3 that I add, 2 more will be added
automatically. Also, I can't easily "cut and paste" sections from the
post I'm replying to. Either I "reply" (which attaches the whole
previous post) or I send a new note (like this one) and must rely on my
memory for what was written, and even the name of the person I'm
responding to. (Very poor memory here!)

Anyway, I do apologies, and will try to refrain.

Finally, I have always had a fascination with Australia, and dream of
visiting some day. My girlfriend seems enchanted as well! (Bonus!)

Until we meet... Cheers!

Subject: CB Installation

I have a two-way radio mounted in a '95 Disco. The installer asked me where
to mount it. I told him to use his best judgement but verify with me first.
We agreed on mounting it to the end (back) of the CD disk holder between the
front seats. It is situated so that anyone in the rear can read it properly.
I can read it too although I have to look down and back slightly. I need to
shorten the mounting bracket it slightly. I need another 1/2 inch of
clearance to fold the rear seats properly.

The antennea is mounted on the rear of the roof behind the second sunroof.
This makes the coax easy to run down the left side of the roof under the
trim, between the doors, and under the driver's seat to the radio. The power
supply is also easy to run from the fuse panel, under the carpet and trim to
the same location.

I'm guessing that you'll have it installed before this weekend otherwise I
would suggest that you look at my setup?! See you this weekend!

Last time I took my radiator out there was hardly any drippage of oil
from the coolers; I think the normal fluid level is below them. Maybe the
mechanic drained the transmission or something.

I was just over at a friends house and saw the new Car & Driver (July '96)
with an 7 page article on driving a D90SW with Tom Collins. Car & Driver has
a web site: <http://www.caranddriver.com> I don't know if it has the D90SW
article on it.

Last week I was at the bookstore (Super Crown) and I spotted a magazine I
have never seen before, "Thoroughbred & Classic Cars" (June '96) It had a
two page article on a restored '73 Range Rover and a four page article on
buying a Series I.

Since all the trailers I pull, have a "Flat-4" connector, and I refused
to pay the $$$ for the RR adapter, I found a "european car" adapter that
adapts the separate brake & turn lights to the "flat-4" connector and
spliced it into the wiring harness (behind the right jump-seat) provided
for trailer connectors. After some testing with the ohm-meter &
continuity tester I "reverse engineered" the connector and connected
the adapter to the flat-4 connector and it's worked great since (total
cost was $30 and about 1 hr including tracing the wires). The only thing
I should have done better was seal the hole in the bottom of the body
that the wire went through so that the water kicked up by the back tire
wouldn't penetrate as easily. If anyone is interested I could post the
connector wiring (and maybe it could find it's way to a FAQ?).

First, if yours is like mine, you have a cable with a 7-pin plug on one end
and bare wires on the other. The cable plugs into a socket behind the right
rear tail light, and the bare wires hang down below waiting for you to
connect something to them.

Get an adaptor with the 4-pin connector on one end, and bare wires on the
other end, designed for cars with amber turn signals. The amber turn signal
adaptors are always more expensive because they have a couple of diodes to
isolate the turn signals from the brake lights. On the trailer, the same
bulb is used for both turn signal and brake, so you'd be tempted to take the
two disco wires for brake and left turn, and connect them together to the
appropriate wire on the trailer. But then whenever you indicate a left
turn, the juice will be able to go back into the disco's brake wire, causing
both disco brake lights to flash. You need a diode to keep juice from the
turn signal from going back up the brake wire, or buy the right adaptor.

Use a meter to figure out which 4 wires to connect. The other three will be
left unused. If I remember correctly, green and yellow are the right and
left turn signals for both car and trailer, and white is ground for both.
The fourth wire is running lights, and I can't remember the color.

Do you mean the connector INSIDE the molding around the right side
taillight ? There is a specific harness extension, available from
Rovers North and others, that plugs into this connector and gives you a
20-25" cable extension, ending in bare wires. You are free to attach
what ever connector you want to these wires.

Can someone with a wiring diagram post the pinout and colour code of the
trailer wiring cable ??

I'll organize them and post them back to the list. I noticed
for example that Rich Ruffer has a 94 D90 #664. My 94 is #775.

I think it would be fun to see who has what numbers and where
they are located, color etc.

Suggested format

Year, vehicle number, color, nickname, Owner name, location, email.
If you don't want to include all of this info, at least include the
