Subject: Jaguar... Lucas related...

OK, you win.

I don't care if Jaguars have Lucas in 'em... I want one.

I drove my first four door 1984 jaguar with 12 banger in it today. I am
"revitalizing" it for the owner (along with a lot of other stuff...) . It
was put away at end of last summer for hibernation and defense against salt,
it only has 55K on it. I got it running, and drove it around a bit. Oh my.

I repeat: "oh my." Smooth is only a superficial description of this
automobile. Very quiet, comfortable, heck even the seats were supportive of
my back, something the Americans still haven't figured out, even though they
build more cars than Lucas has relays...

The Lucas part... ha ha. I get the thing running, I watch the gas guage go
from zero to half, from zero to half, and I see absoulutely NO oil pressure
from that guage. I figure if there really wasn't any oil pressure, either
I'd hear it, or I could tell the owner that whoever put it away last year
wrecked teh engine... ha . Anyway, never mind that it took about 20 minutes
for the oil pressure guage to become active, and forget the "oscillating"
right fuel tank level indicator... when I revved the engine to over 2400rpm,
the radio went beserk and acted like the power was being turned on and off
repeatedly and rapidly. Oh boy... that and the electric sunroof wouldn't
open.

Isn't that actually against the law? To have a sunroof in a Jaguar that
doesn't open? I had better repair this for the owner before they get caught.

Anyway, I've decided that after I sell the Brooklyn Bridge a couple times,
I'm gonna own a D90, a RR, and a Jaguar. Summer is for the Jag and D90, rain
and shine respectively, and winter is for the RR.

The British win.

John.

Yes, plus the passenger side power lock sometimes not functioning,
requiring you to walk around and lock the door manually. Sharpens your
sense of security and does something for your fitness...

Got some more information on the Solihull Society's National Land Rover Rally

the trails and activities. So... does this mean that if you roll your Land

Behind the left rear tire, sitting on the frame rail (more or less) is the
connection plug for the fuel pump.

Disconnect this and hook a volt meter between the positive wire (guess or
try both) and a good ground. Start the RR and you should see about 12 volts
(I had 11 volts) and when you stop cranking the voltage should shut down
after a second. If you get voltage than everything is fine to that point.

If no voltage, check the fuse, the inertia switch (under the back of the
drivers seat looks like a push switch, down on, up off), and the relays
under the passenger seat.

>From the pump wires, check continuity with an ohm meter. I had about 4-5
ohms across the pump.

If I can be of more help, call.

You can get a catalog by calling Safari Gard at (909) 698-6114. Greg Jevne is the
owner/designer/fabricator. When I called, Greg was able to fax me a copy of the catalog
as soon as we hung up. The catalog doesn't have prices, so you may want to ask for a

Add me to the "snubbed" list. One of those old ones, ya know, no AC, leaky
windows, leaf springs, all that museum stuff..., went by on the opposite side
of the road. I see it, I always see 'em, (I'm NOT arrogant...), I wave, I
WAVE, I flippin' yell, nope. Must've been deep in conversation about a
future LR project.

And, the next day, a four door museum piece, I think the old timers call 'em
109s, went by, RIGHT by, in fact HE passed ME on the freeway, IT WAS RAINING
and I was with surrey/tonneau, so I was grabbin' some attention here, mostly
laughter I admit, but attention nonetheless... and he didn't even look at me,
I waved , I even BEEPED the damn horn ( I don't think those old things even
HAVE horns... am I right???? The electronics or something??) SHeesh, I
really tried. I was in old blue jeans too, I was comin' back from a
bluegrass jam, had banjo in back, so I wasn't all "suit and tied" up. He had
no reason to snub me like that. The nerve of the guy. Hmph.

Could he have read this post before I wrote it, and didn't understand I was

WOW! And I thought it was just me!!! I found that when I notice it not
locking (I usually watch, now) if I just unlock, and then lock again, it
usually locks the 2nd or 3rd time.

You may want to contact Performance Industries in the UK. They have many
sorts of new bars that they'll ship you ranging in price from US$150 - 300.

BTW - I had a bit of a bad experience with PI, in that they were supposed
to ship me a skid plate but didn't because of shipping problems. Too bulky
to ship economically, they claimed. So I ordered one from BritPac only to
find a week later it was backordered. So I'm still waiting and Owl's Head
is coming up fast.

Performance's fax number is +441544 230904.

Pulling away from the petrol/gas station today I realized I had left
the hand brake on. Clearly not enough to prevent the car from moving;
I don't think I noticed the car responding any differently. What is
the wisdom on whether I have done any damage? How do I tell? Wha
should I do? (Besides avoiding this behavior.)

Subject: Fuel Pump GM/RR Part #

I've noticed alot of discussion on fuel pumps lately. My local mechanic
tells me that "Genuine GM" Part Number 462-23 is what was used for my
1988 Range Rover. It's supposed to be identical to what you get from the
Rover dealers except the price is about 1/2 if ordered from normal GM
sources. Can anyone verify that? What about other parts e.g.
distributor caps, rotors, coils, etc. Does anyone know of other
inter-changeable parts?

Oddly enough, I'm working on a web page (hopefully it will grow into
more than just a page) that will list Rover - parts and their
"second-class" interchangeable cousins, which usually run about half
price.

I've only got a handful right now, but would appreciate ANY input
from the group. (Please, include as much info as possible when you
send me a part #, like what vehicle it is for, what year, where you
got it, etc....). I know this list could be huge and be a tremendous
help to the group.

Jeff,
I too just bought some of the tow loops from Rovers North, but they
don't quite fit so well. They go around the frame all right (the skid
plate will need to be shaved a bit), but I have a spacer inbetween the
frame member and frame plate (side) that the loop mounting bolt also
passes through. I am assuming that the tow loop mounts in place of the
factor tie down rings. How did you mount yuor rings? Looks like a bit
of work for me to mount mine.
