Subject: TRO's map 135

Hi All,

Just a note on those proposed TRO's.

1) 732 912 to 687 895...........6/29 and 6/27

This route does suffer from damage due to 2 large peat bogs. This first

view of the road. If what I have heard is right he winches all his party
through it. I have partly driven the second part from the road but turned
back by the bog area. This would be a nice long scenic drive if it was not
for this. I have not been up there during a hot summer so can not comment.
Hope to do so this year.

2) 746 764 to 822 818...................byway 20/46

Alongside the stream at Devils Bridge. There is one part where about 18
inches width of the track has fallen away to the stream (2 foot drop). Club
members built it back up a couple of years ago with rocks to bring it back
to vehicle (Range Rover, will try and dig out a picture ) width. Easily
repaired with some concrete to hold the rocks in place. A couple of hundred
yards further along is a muddy section which is always shaded. It is down to
a reasonably firm base but is rutted needs some drainage . The last third is
up a very steep hill and does not finish on tarmac but some I believe pushed
on the last few yards to the road. The route joins another ROW which is a
forestry track and joins the main road after passing through a Mid Wales 4x4
group members farm. The wife mentioned that she would like the section
through the farm downgraded but if you asked she would let you through.

3) 756 840 to 719 813..................byway 14/74 going onto 14/85 after
the road.

Starts at the visitor center near Ponterwyd. A bit confusing as it starts on
a tarmac footpath next to the carpark. follows a clear route up a moderate
climb to an area of felled trees. Need to watch out for cut branches. The
small ruts gather water. clearly defined along the whole route some deeper
ruts but driven in January with no problems. Only had problems the first
time we drove it a few years back. Seems easier to drive now. The 14/85
section does contain some deeper ruts that could ground you. One of my
favorite routes in Mid Wales. Amazing view from the vistor center.

Only number one would require a large deviation from the route. The ruts on
14/85 can be straddled.

User forms and a letter will be sent to Ceredigion C.C. today. I would like
to volunteer help to repair 20/46 where the track has fallen into the stream
and clear some drainage ditches.

Is there really an "f" after LD713 ?

I know it is only a small point, but if 250,000 letters all go in with a
small typo (or scanning error) they might suspect someone has done some
pushing?

Gareth,

Thank you for a very helpful description of the routes.

I would be happy to assist in work on these.

I have a complete copy of the route David Bowyer used in 1995 on "Secret
Wales". None of these were part of it. He did not (or need to) do any
winching on the Secret Wales, although he does (obviously) like to have
some vehicles on each party with winches. The only winching he did was on
his own site.

I have heard this before, and as he is not on the list or email (as far as
I know) I feel he should be made aware of the reports, and given a chance
to confirm or deny if they do use these routes, and to be made aware of
the concern and possible TROs. I feel he would avoid any which were
potentially at risk. He does have two or three other people that lead the
parties. If he does use them, a letter explaining the situation and what
steps he will take to assist will be important to avoid TROs.

I.E. *IF* he does take perhaps 6 parties of 6 people on routes, year after
year, by promising not to use a route which the CC say they are concerned
about, will not only reduce traffic by 36 vehicles p.a., but by an untold
number of return visits and unduly pubicised routes. This effect alone
should be sufficient to make the CC rethink the need for a TRO.

This is possibly a situation where VR could save a permanent TRO (if they
are serious about going ahead). No respectable outfit would take paying
punters past a VR sign. The bad publicity would do them enormous harm.

I suspect there are other O.R. schools that use the routes that may not put
their hands up.

Is this a reference to me, or I am I just being paranoid?? ;-)

An excellent piece of investigative journalism.

I was so angry after seeing Mrs Masters and that oafish prevocative lout
Master Master baiter that I do not feel able to express myself sucinctly
in writing my gleam resignation letter. Any assistance appreciated. I
will send a copy to Telegraph and Times (anyone have their address/fax?)
explaining how I joined to achieve environmenntal action, and find they do
nothing to prevent environmental damage only, to close the RUPPS and BOATs
they all seem to live on.
