Subject: Dangerous walks

Hi to the virtual RoW community

Did any one watch Dangerous wanks last night? I had to go out - it being
Wednesday and the roads dry - but I set the video thing. Alas there are pit
falls to being a TVphobe - I taped the credits and the following half hour.

For those who saw it can you let me know if Masters was featured and some
detail. I believe Mrs M will be at the East Woodhay PI next week and it
would be good to be able to suggest that she is not so much giving evidence
relevant to the PI but following the family agender.

Thanks to those who flagged up this prog - sorry I failed you.

I wrote to Wadkins, RoW, NYCC, on the 11th of March asking
him to confirm what he had said to me, face to face, some
4 years earlier, namely that I could drive Dead Man's Hill
because it was a UCR.

Still no reply, except for a nice post card, which I
received on the 27th of March. Unfortunately, the post
card did not have a picture of Malham Cove, or any other
pleasant spot in the county, and so it has no value
whatsoever.

Lucky Mr. Wadkins is due to receive a visit from Brian
Lewis tomorrow, and Brian has kindly agreed to jog his
memory, on my behalf.

How long does it take to write a letter which simply
says "Yes, that is what I said ....." ????

Hi all

What a wonderful programme. Who is that Mrs Masters - what a nasty piece of
work. Is the lane the horse riders were attempting to drive a potential BOAT?
Is that the lane at PI next week? If so there is some extremely powerful
evidence there that the Masters family are just completely selfish dickheads.

What disappointed me was that there was no follow up to the action. All of the
'obstructors' were caught in the act as it were, but what happened next? Have
they been arrested, cautioned, duffed up? What?

Regards

Richard

Mrs Masters is one of the gleam committee, and one of their roving
firefighters (along with Dunlop, the Cambridge rubber Fireman) who attend
all PIs fighting the selfish "keep vehicles off RUPPs and Byways near my
property.

I seem to recall they said it was a RUPP through her farm in Bath, there
was a PI 18 months ago, and they are waiting for a decision. This seems
amazing if it is so long, Glatton IV did not take so long.

I bet it does not go to BOAT, cherish the thought. If you want to drive
it, get in quick, that would please them.
I do not know how she could ever go to a PI again, after what they did.

Last week our PROW manager, said about PIs, that "there seems a much
greater reluctance of Inspectors to award BOAT status recently"

John, after re-watching it, perhaps you could give a resume of what
happened in the prog, and the Masters incident in more detail. (Names,
farms, villages perhaps)

Are the CCs or the police interested in taking action? Not a bit of it.

Why didnt they not follow it through, some of the people were assaulted.
Why did they not report it (as Joe Public and see if they got any action,
and do a follow up on the outcome.

Roman Rd Hereford, UCR, I debollarded in mid Jan, was re bollarded by end
Jan. Reported to Police. After an 8 week investigation they suggested as it
was "complex and long standing" I take it up with CC. (I had reported it
to them, their reaction was Oh dear we cant mow the grass there now can
we!) I wrote to Chief Constable of West Mercia on Tues to ask for the
Police Complaints Authority address & complaint form. What does one do
about these obstructions? I am going that way today, I will report if
there is any further developments.

I also will contact Edgar Powell about the H&W featured footpath, and lend
support, and ask about follow up action there. (he is OSS, but has
responded positively about the UCR downgrading here)

I sometimes think the DoE/ parliament do not have a clue what is actually
happening. The make a set of laws and guidelines, which are on the whole
are reasonable, but CCs try to close down routes and ignore the advice, yet
are clearly told to "assert and protect". We are made out to be the
trouble makers when we ask them to comply with the law.

Chris

I saw Dangerous Walks and have it on video. Several thoughts on it though.
Will the HA/Police follow any of it up? Why don' t the u'kin Ramblers
concentrate on removing obstructions (including farmers themselves) on
footpaths rather than trying to stop you and me driving/riding the 5% of
roads that are untarred?

Seems a good opportunity for a bit of stirring though.

Resign from GLEAM? Don't forget we'll need another agent, our last one got
thrown out!
