Hi All St.Albans tried 2 years ago to TRO this lane due to Gypsies and Flytippers, the request came from Cllr. Henchley who lives very near the southern end of the lane. The coucil about 3 to 4 years ago gated the lane with security gates and locks. It was after I had made several complaints about the gate and reported them to the Ploice that they started the TRO route 2 years ago. The application was dropped due to the hihg level of objections they recived, so please all objection again. The onbudsman is making a decision about the gates at present. This time they are proposing "to make the order under Road Traffic Act 84, Part 1 Section 1 (e) for preserving the character of the road in a case where it is specially suitable for use by persons on horse or on foot or (f) for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs. They want all comments in by 9th May 1997. The TRO will be controlled by the retention of the 2 existing gates with the space currently avaible to allow cyclists, walkers and riders to pass freely". The exixting gate are illegal obstruction. Farm vehicles will still use the route, as will a gun club which runs upwards of 20 vehicles along the route every 2 weeks. Dispite this use the lane is still in very good order. This route offers no decree of dificulty, it is of well compacted clay with good drainage. The lane is of good width to allow vehicles to pass one another along most of its lenth. At present one of the locals has been supplied with a key to the northern gate as she finds it difficult to get youngters past the gate when mounted. This is one of the only unsurfaced lanes left in the control of St.Albans and I belive they are planning to force us out completly. Please respond by writting to:- St.Albans and District Fao Mr J Thornton Highways and Rights of Way District Council Offices St.Peters Street St.Albans Herts AL1 3JE Telephone 01727 866100 Fax 01727 843167 Cheers John PS Andy Bush, can you please forward this infomation to Richard McD. Steve,
Sounds like someone ought to test drive a JCB or a 'dozer down it.
No, I'm serious - maybe this could be a way to take some direct action ( it
would certainly make you feel better wouldn't it! ). I'd already had this
thought some months ago after inspecting a dredged-out and banked UCR ford
across the Usk near Brecon ( Powys U566 at SO 091260 ).
It's abit like the feeling I get when I read in the Brecon and Radnor
Express about someone nicking Road Signs - and wishing the Toe-rags concerned
would put a certain couple of TRO signs on their 'To Nick' list. I live in
hope!
Regards
Charlie.

Richard,
Lovely thought isn't it! Did you see Tim's reply? Only trouble
is that Hardtail Harleys do not good Trail Bikes make, and slashed pipes tend
make too much din to make escorting horses easy. Could we persuade some of
the Angels to go in for Blown, Nitreous Injected Cut-down Air-Portables, Pink
Panthers or Range-Rovers ( aka Mad Max ) ?
Regards
Charlie.

Subject: Re: Deputation
All,
A bit of research ( 'phone my little brother ) has dug up the following
MAG contacts:
Craig Clinch - MAG Info. Officer. E-mail:
Craig@MAG2.demon.co.uk
or via MAG Central Office, tel: 0121 459 5860
Nickie McVie - SW Regional Rep. tel: 01395 232967
Laurence Newton - Avon, Glos, Wilts. tel: 01793 700464
I'm told that MAG is well tied up with political lobbying for the next 3
weeks but may well be interested in offering what help it can after that.
Anyone care to follow this up? Anyone local to Somerset on this means?
Regards
Charlie Morriss.

I live in > hope! may I reply via list? The boys in blue do not seem to care a jot when it comes to obstructions. What good has letter writing ever done? It does not seem to knock obstructions down. At RoW forum with CC today they talked about a TRO on a proposed BOAT, HA Asst Dir said the police are dead against it, they would not be able to police it. Seeing as there would probably be no signs anyway they would not have to police it ! On way back looked at an obstructed, (50 ton of rubbish, i.e.Asbestos in a water course) overgrown, undergrown, ploughed and cropped UCR. The HA promised action on ploughing nearly a year ago. Zilch. what say we invest in a JCB, (that must come under ALL traffic), a decent blade on the front can hardly be said to be going out equiped can it? Richard, Adrian, Gerald Tim Steve have all expressed the need for an effective remedy for obstructions. Stockton ride is nigh. Roman Road is fair game. Who wants to add to Rebeccas list? Whats the Usk ford going to take to effect a cure? The one Bob Kinghorn said is an 8ft drop into the Usk? sounds a bit wet :-) Steve, puzzled by wall in Garden of Kent. a) If it obstructs your bike, surely it obstructs girlies on fat horses, and all females on horses get prompt action from HAs? b) Why didnt S56 proceed, are there hidden expenses to S56? c) Wouldnt 20,000lbs on a grappling hook on the top of the wall cause the odd brick or two to tumble? did you say it was BOAT of reasonable width on the statement, and no TRO? Come on lads, what are you men or mice? Open it before it is 116'd through lack of use. Sorry if I sound a bit frustrated, but we are sometimes too patient for our own good.
