Whilst reading the log, a lady called, "got part of your fax but the machine is dodgy, send it to the other machine". So I does. No reply. I rings back. Go round each dept they have. "Oh the other machine is out of paper. Were expecting some in at 11.30. We only have two machines"! Yet they can afford umpteen thousand pounds on TROs, rather than a telephone call to LARA for free VR! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (as someone said last night) Get real. Has anybody tried getting this kind of funding for National Green Lane Day? ------------------------------[ <- Message 6 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 970423 -> | Search Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

Paul Tyler Esq. CBE
MP for North Cornwall
House of Commons
London
SW1A 0AA
Dear Mr Tyler
Please could you confirm that the following quote
attributed to you is correct. If it is correct please could you supply an
example or more of the type of damage you describe.
On agreeing to become an honorary member of GLEAM, Paul Tyler MP writes:
"Damage to Green Lanes ...is a problem I have encountered in a number of
parts of the country in my capacity of Rural Affairs Spokesman for the
Liberal Democrats .... It can be found in every part of the country, and I
congratulate you on GLEAM's initiative to raise the profile of the
problem."
If you are unable to respond or supply the supporting evidence I shall have
to publish the fact.
Moreover I expect you to be able to prove that the damage you describe is
caused by recreational vehicles and not as the DoE white paper and GLEAM
studies have shown, by horses and agricultural vehicles.
I trust that GLEAM have shown you their study which also supported the
findings of the DoE and every other study that damage to the network is
limited to a tiny minority of the network.
I trust that GLEAM have told you that they are less than 300 members who in
the main have vested interests in lane closures. The last MP who supported
GLEAM was made to look very silly and uniformed in the House when no less
than the Minister of the environment corrected his erroneous ideas. We have
not heard from him since.
In general all of GLEAMs ideas and assertions have been rejected by the
DoT, the DoE and 90% of all county councils. I assume they told you that.
Did they mention that 82% of all county councils do not have any problems
with the damage you mention. According to GLEAM figures anyway.
GLEAM used the offices of Berkshire CC to carry out the study, the county
press office distributed the results in a press release. You should get a
copy.
According to government figures, green laning has a zero accident rate and
no one can recollect a vehicle hitting any one on a green lane.
You must be unaware of the substantial protection vehicular rights give a
lane, and the benefit that protection provides to all users of the lane.
You appear to be seeking to sacrifice public rights in favour of your
friends’ financial interests. Can you demonstrate otherwise?
Yours sincerely,
Andy Bush

]Date: Tue, 22 Apr 1997 18:51:06 -0400 From: Chris Marsden <Byway@compuserve.com> Subject: Finance Act / Stockton Ride > Hi Chris, > I read the original act in the London records office. 1910 evidence is conclusive proof > that the land owner registered the road as a public vehiclular highway. > Not all road were claimed because not all were subject to the tax, and other > landowners did not want to register the road. > Andy Bush Fantastic. I was going to ask you why you said that it was vehicular. I thought it was one more peice of the jigsaw, slightly better than tithe, but not as good as inclosure. Don't Inspectors rubbish it by saying it was drawn up for taxation purposes, not for RoW determination? It gives me the desire (confidence) to use several non obstructed finance enacted ways. Date: Tue, 22 Apr 1997 20:20:53 +0100 From: Brian Lewis <brian@limb.demon.co.uk> Subject: Green lane survey Hi All I have just been round Widdlefoot and Munkeybeck this weekend and a load more roads around here, when it came to me, you know the YDNP survey, why don't we get all the user groupes in the area to gether for a meeting, invite the YDNP and sugest that we devide up all the lanes that they servaied and do them again now 9years later, just to see what all the fuss is about, I read the report on the roads I did on Sunday and I could see no difference with them now, so why all the concern? What do you think? I put this email out to tim stevenes and Peter Bradley, but anyone uses the Yorkshire dales area for green laning then drop me a note if you are interested.
