As someone once said
;-) Where have you been, Tim,XXX, No, Mick, never heard of my postings
of Plonker Temple-Morris's election address:-

Note he was appealing to his Conservative cahoots at the time, (don't ask
how he's Lab now)

Peter Temple-Morris’s Election leaflet 1997:-

RURAL ACCESS AND URBAN INTRUSION
This is a real problem now and increasing in the future. Access on a fair
and proper basis there must be, but we are not some sort of playground for
coach loads of ramblers, autograss racers, four wheel drive enthusiasts,
fishing parties and so on. We rely greatly on our organisations such as the
NFU and CLA; our local councils; and on me as MP to be constantly vigilant
in this area.

It has his mugshot on it as well. A collectors item.

Had a call from Gareth GBW2@aol.com 01 827 718 849.
He put in a complaint on 12/12/98 I believe of E5221 being obstructed.

A copy of a letter from Warks 1st class dated 21/12/98 appears to be the
first letter (to a local resident) saying they had had a request for
stopping up.

Now I may have to re-confirm the dates with Gareth, but it would appear
the 116 appl. disclosure was first made known AFTER a report had gone to CC
by a user!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Note this road is not shown with ORPA on 151 which does have some other
ORPA shown.

Little rascals............

I'm not a particularly active contributor to the list but do follow it.
I am from North Staffordshire.

Tom is thinking of writing to his MP. No, it does not matter. You might be
concerned that your access to the countryside is proposed to be restricted,
and it doesn't matter that you may not have sought out particular lanes in a
particular area. The EDM claim is that lanes are being badly affected, and if
she supports that view it is either on evidence or it isn't. Ask for her
evidence so you can avoid problem routes, and help in management of them.

There are such routes in Somerset, and one or two are a bit the worse for
wear, but not primarily due to recreational 4x4 or motorcycle use. But let her
identify them for you - I am sure she will not know of any relevant problems,
and will possibly have been wound-up by a local turnip-grower.

Cheers, Tim

Depends if you want to walk on an ancient track with that feeling of
history and the knowledge that you forefathers might have know he way, and
recognised it today - or do you want to walk through a field of turnips?

My wife comes from Taunton but discretion dictates that I don't ask about
her green lane use!!

Err... It's a fair cop. What I meant was 'HSE', as in Health and Safety

No it doesn't matter, I have never put a child thru' school, so am I
excluded from asking about teaching? Same principle

Oh and be sure to ask her if she has any first-hand experience of being
troubled by 2x1s and 4x4s on such lanes. See other peoples advice re:

Sensible is not a word I would normally associate with MP's, he just didn't
sign the EDM, either lost his pen or he was playing hooky that
day/week/month, or was on a fact finding mission to the Caribbean to study
the mating habits of the lesser spotted secretary, all at our expense of
course.

Thanks for the advice. Will try to make time to write this weekend and will
let you know of any reply. I've been following this group for some time so
know some of the arguents to use, and despite doing a lot of walking in
Somerset and driving on Exmoor (as support vehicle), have never come across
a recreational 4x4, only acricultral ones whose drivers have been far from
friendly.

No, I bet she hasn't, and doesn't know the status. And if she sees muddy
ruts on a FP or Bridleway, I bet she will blame it on us without looking to
see why it is muddy, where the tracks go, what clues there are from the
marks as to thy vehicle type that made them. AND ABOVE ALL not stop to
think Ahhh! It's only a Footpath so all these vehicles MUST be local
residents or Farm or Forestry etc with private rights!

Does anyone have, or can everyone be on the lookout for an opportunity to
photograph a tractor or other heavy non-leisure vehicle ON a green lane,
and if muddy all the better, and with laden tailer, all the better still.
This could be very important.

The antis seem to get pictures of laners easily enough, when we are
outnumbered by commercial wreckers we have very few to show as evidence. A
picture speaks a thousand words, it's time for us to bite back.
