Subject: Increasing headlight power
I am not very happy with the power output of my SIIa, especially on
dipped beam during dark winter nights... I would like to upgrade the
bulbs, as opposed to fitting auxillary lights, as IMHO they look "boy
racerish". I have seen some halogen bulbs, but some say "For Off Road
Use Only" - I assume as they are too powerful(!). What kind of power
can the standard wiring loom take - and what kind of bulbs can
(Legally) be fitted. Or should I just swallow my pride and fit some
auxillary lamps, in which case any suggestions?
Cheers
Richard

I have fitted Ring quartz halogen headlamps to my SI, they are 55/65
watt, and make all the difference down the dark Welsh lanes. Craddock
& others are currently offering these for around GPD25. Well worth the
dosh!

Yeah, it looks like Trackers are becoming the odds on favourite for tyre choice - there not a bad price either! Thanks for your thoughts Phil. The tyres you mention above are these the "Trackers" I see advertised in all the LR mags? Yeah, I agree. One of the reasons I want something a bit more "agressive". Are you on the original Lt/wt rims or LWB wheels? I know that there is a few ford V powered landrovers out there,
and I have a faver to ask.
Does any one have a spare carb for a ford 3.0Ltr V6 Essex engine.
If someone does please mail me & I'll sort out the arrangements.
Thanks in advance.

]From: Tom Stevenson <gbfv08@udcf.gla.ac.uk> Subject: Increasing headlight power Date: Mon, 12 Feb 1996 14:21:39 +0000 (GMT) Richard I think that 55W is the max power for main beam on the road. 90/110 sealed beam units should fit the bowls and the plugs in your IIa. I prefer these to replacable bulb headlamps, because although they aren't as bright, they don't fill with water. A sealed beam costs about twice as much as a replacement bulb though (about 10 pounds) -- Tom Stevenson: gbfv08@udcf.gla.ac.uk University Marine Biological Station, Isle of Cumbrae, Scotland Tel:(01475) 530581 Fax:(01475) 530601 ------------------------------[ <- Message 12 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 960213 -> | Search Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]
