If:
1. I finish all my other chores this weekend and
2. If I could find my "Steam Tables" to do the calculations

I will try and come up with some mathematical representations of what actually
happens....but don't hold your breath.

Gerald.

I can accept the logic that was being put forward here.

Trouble is there aren't too many qualified engineers out there sorting
out Land Rover's without thermostats at 20 per hour garage charges so
we put our trust in the fact that Land Rover have spent millions in R&D
over the years and if they say their vehicle should have a stat I see
little point in argueing
>In the meantime I will leave you all a few thoughts to ponder:

And presumably the temperatures that it meets on the way. So I guess
that you'll be taking account of the different fuel, the methods of
combustion, the method of fuel introduction, the thickness of cylinder
liner walls etc.

I think this supports the agruement that was being put forward to say
that you want quick flow around the engine so that a given volume of
water doesn't get too hot and a slow flow around the radiator so that
it's got pleanty of time to cool, therefore don't remove the stat.

'init ?

By this pseudo-scientific "theory" then surely a normal engine wouldn't
require a radiator at all because you are saying that the 100' is a max
and we all know that water at 9 or 15 psi doesn't boil at 100'

Not for oil coolers on Land Rovers.

Dunno.

Hmmm, unless slowed down on it's way back there.

Let's not worry about it too much. When they are as Land Rover designed
them they work quite well in all sorts of ambients !

Enjoys your sums, I'm off to fix one that doesn't know it's got 8 pots.
Now there's a problem !

Help! Can anyone tell me the part number for the fuel filter replacement
for the 300 Tdi? What I have is labelled AEV 2147L, on the LR box.
Many thanks

Many thanks to the person who sent the suggestion for getting at
instruments - it worked a treat, but I managed to lose the message after
reading so couldn't respond directly.
