As far as I know they are standard as I bought the beast with a 2.25 lump. The extra power will apply a greater twisting force on the springs. It is feasible that you could cause problems in the long run because this force will tend to lift in front of the axle and pull down behind, but I would have thought that this would apply less force than hitting bumps hard, even though when you hit a bump the spring compresses uniformly. LR springs are so stiff anyway to handle huge loads that you should be OK with springs in good nick. I suspect that it is not the V6 which is causing your problem, just old age. Yes, but watch how you deal with compressing the springs; they can be
*very* fierce

Before dismantling anything remove the speedo cable from the gearbox and
flatten the drive cable. It's unusual for there to be anything wrong
with the drive other than it's not catching the inner cable.

Not sure, keep you eye on LRO International and be careful at Sodbury. I
know many people who've paid well over the odds for inferior quality
parts at such events.

]From: Tom Stevenson <gbfv08@udcf.gla.ac.uk> Subject: 110 questions - speedo Date: Tue, 5 Mar 1996 11:17:01 +0000 (GMT) If you remove the hatch between the front seats and peer down the left hand side of the gearbox, you should see the speedo cable emerging. It is held in place with a single bolt and a forked plate. Once removed, you can withdraw the speedo cable; there should be a little rubber oil seal in there as well. What you are left with is a housing containing the speedo drive gear. The housing can be carefully pulled out, since it is normally kept in place by the forked retaining plate. Jiggling the prop shaft to move the gears slightly may help in freeing the drive gear. The speedo drive gear for 750x16 tyres should be blue with 20 teeth. There is an o-ring seal in groove around the housing which may need replacing. When I replaced the 205x16's on my 90 with 750x16's, I changed the drive gear to keep the speedo relatively accurate. From: "Gray, Allan" <agray@oldstreet.agw.bt.co.uk> Subject: BMW Powered Discovery Date: Tue, 05 Mar 96 13:53:00 GMT A good friend of mine is a mechanic currently working for a company in Essex which fits and repairs vehicle air-conditioning. He was recently sent to work on a Discovery at a main dealers site. He said it had done 1200 miles and had the front end pranged. He had to repair the aircon but noticed that the engine was a BMW turbo diesel!!. He is not a LR fan and just assumed that Discoveries now had BMW engines. He is sure it was a BMW engine (it said so on the top). What does this mean? Is it a prototype or an expensive transplant to a customers vehicle. Anybody any ideas? The BMW Diesel has been available for some time as a retrofit, as have
many other engines (including the GM 6.2 litre V8 diesel).
You say it was in Essex.
'Nuff said.
