From: JAMES O-SHEA <SAC3JNO@cardiff.ac.uk> Date: Mon, 25 Mar 1996 09:29:40 GMT Subject: WAKE UP, TIME TO DIE Nothing to do with BladeRunner! I think it's time I waved goodbye to my 1958 SII landy with new wheels and tyres, cute side door decals, free-wheeling hubs, 35,000 on the clock (probably not genuine!), new springs, shocks, neat paintwork (except for some bear-claw scratches on the near-side wing), sound half rust-proofed chassis, leather steering wheel cover, and a good-working engine. I just can't afford to run it anymore so I'm thinking of taking some time off owning a car until I can get another landy. I was considering getting a little mini for the time being. Anyway is anybody interested in owning this baby for a mere 975 uk pounds? I have to go now, I think I'm going to cry... ...I can't even bring myself to press the send button yet! Oh, what the hell, this isn't an official advert okay, just an enquiry 'cos I still don't know if I can bring myself to part with the old gal. Date: 25 Mar 96 05:00:53 EST From: "Stefan R. Jacob" <100043.2400@compuserve.com> Subject: Re: Power steering! More than a week ago I posted something about a steering box recall in reply to a message from Carl Butler which went along the lines of >> there has been a recall out since well over a week concerning precisely >> a certain batch of steering boxes fitted to Defenders and Discos which >Thanks for your reply. Do you have any more information as to the source of > this recall ? - I contacted customer services at Lode Lane, but they were >unaware of any recall. - if you have better knowledge (I'm sure customer ...snip... >Do you know if these were factory fitted boxes which were faulty, or could it >be post-factory fitted ones? Well, it seems my dealer-bashing was a bit hasty. There is a recall, but it concerns post factory spare parts, not units factory fitted to vehicles, and the notice went out only to dealers/importers who had been shipped a batch of faulty units. I'm also not sure whether it was Land Rover or the manufacturer of the steering boxes who issued the recall. The person who gave me the information is currently busy wrecking his steering box somewhere in North Africa, so right now I can't get any more details. Still, hope this helps to clear up the confusion I created. Stefan <Stefan R. As someone who also posts a lot I do get annoyed by the half dozen mail failure messages which come with each posting. Could all the students who are about to go on Easter hols please make sure that they have enough mailbox space, or unsubscribe for the holidays. Or have they already gone and I'm too late? Can majordomo be configured to swallow the bounced messages? I am on other mailing lists and they never give me bounced message problems and I doubt that is due to the list subscribers. Regards, Sgt. Subject: Re[2]: Land Rover 2 wheel drive model ?
My knowledge is all based upon the LRO articles - I'll look out the
issue tonight. I agree with the earlier comments that they were
intended as airfield runabouts - I think quite a few have survived.
For some reason they tend to bear an 'FUV' numberplate, I recently saw
a nice example parked just around the corner from Vauxhall Station and
the British Interplanetary society complete with its 'FUV' plate, just
the thing for that London traffic I suppose,
cheers,
Mark

I am athird year student at Covenntry University, and my final project is on the success of the Discovery. If you have not already filled in a questionairre please mail me for a copy at hec2@coventry.ac.uk. Also, if you have any opinions for or against the Discovery and its competitors please let me know. I have alot of info from the American side, but not enough on the UK market. If any of you, by some freak chance, happen to have any copies of any Discovery magazine ads, I would be grateful if you could let me know. I am a Land Rover driver, so have a genuine interest in the success of this assignment, and a good grade would be a bonus!!!
