No ! Well, you could always try swapping it for a 2.25 for a week or two. Put the 2.5 back, and you'll think you're flying. I run a Series 111 Lightweight with a 2.5 petrol engine, the problem is I'm having to change the condensor every 1-2,000 miles can anybody tell me why. Also would it be better for me to put in electronic ignition, taking into consideration that my mechanical skills extend to knowing that you use the pointy end of a screwdriver. I put 10 mph on top speed, and 5 seconds off 0-60 time of my 110 turbo diesel last weekend, simply by flattening out the mat under the pedal, and the conversion only cost pennies (to use as washers). Seriously, if you think a 2.5 diesel is slow you should try a 2l in a 109 series 1, a 2.25 in a series 2 isn't much better. The best performance improvement for our series 2 diesel was having it brought home by AA Relay truck! You could try new filters, checking that the exhaust is not clogged with soot or the air hose not internally collapsed, that the head gasket is OK, and that the injector spray patterns and pump settings are OK. From: Trefor Delve <delve1t@nectech.co.uk> Subject: Condensers Date: Thu, 04 Apr 96 13:31:00 GMT Kim, The only thing I can think (and it's a bit of a long shot) of is that the points gap is too small. If this is the case, the coil is able to store more energy which gets dumped into the condenser. When the points are opened, the condenser and coil form a tuned circuit (at least until the spark jumps and removes a lot of this energy). Of course, as a tuned circuit the voltage levels can easily exceed 12v. The point of this argument is that if the condenser is under more electrical stress, it may fail sooner. Strangely enough I just replaced mine as it let me down. Any thoughts anyone ? The Lucas and some Bosch coils have built in resistors, this is not a very common setup, and it may be that the coil was replaced with a non resistor type coil. This would quickly burn out your points and eat up your condesors. From: LEE.HENTY@NENE.AC.UK Date: Fri, 05 Apr 1996 01:56:21 +0000 (GMT) Subject: speedo fluctuations Recently p.hazell@worc.ac.ul asked about speedo fluctuations. From the symptoms he described it sound like the faults I had on a ex mil ser 3. What I found was that the large nut on the rear output shaft on the transfer box was loose. The speedo drive gear is clamped by this nut and when it is loose the gear rotates at various loads and speeds and gives some very weird effects. It may be other things of course but check this out as I bought a new cable only to find after fitting the fault remained.I also found that the fibre oilseal washer tends to compress after time so this fault is usually accompanied by oil coming between the uj flanges.
