Date: Sun, 7 Apr 1996 16:54:41 +0100 From: Kevan Shaw <kevan@krshaw.demon.co.uk> Subject: Bad day for Landies Today at Philipstoun Bing, an off road site near Edinburgh, my Landie disgraced itself on a hill by breaking a rear halfshaft. This is anoying at teh best of times but as it caused a failed ascent the resulting descent was not particularly controlled as I did not realise why the ascent had failed! No rear halfshaft meant bugger all engine braking as the back was running free and the front was just dragged downhill over what was a very bumpy surface. As if that wasn't bad enough another series 3 failed with locked up gear selectors. I was reduced to a ride round the site in a Vitara which was an eyeopening experience, grounding out eveywhere and descending on brakes to prevent the engine overrevving itself, and I didn't find the ride that significantly more comfortable than my series 3! Oh well back to the repair shop. By the way has anyone got a Kenlowe fan kit suitable for a series 3 Diesel they don't want? Also has anyone tried the Mudplugga Radials yet, my current set of Michelin pattern remoulds are beginning to show cracks round the blocks and what looks like cuts in the sidewalls maybe new tyre time which is a bit rough considering the existing ones are only 18 months old!
