hello!

750 means 7.50 inch, and tells how wide the tread of the tyre is, and =
the hight of the tyre side is normaly 82% of this. For the 750 this =
gives 7.50" * 0.82 =3D 6,15"
16 is the size of the rim.

Other tyres are messured in mm, eg. 235R70-16 means 235 mm wide tread, =
R=3Dradia, 70means hight is NOT 82% but 70% ( 235 * 0.7=3D 164,5 ) and =
16" rim.

Interested in more info? Send me a mail, I have a table in EXCEL 7.0 =
format, 102Kbytes.

Subject: SII/SIII Clutch Slave cylinders

A question for those of you who know their onions (or clutch slave
cylinders to be precise).

Does anyone know what, if any, are the differences between a SII/IIa
clutch slave cylinder and that of a SIII. I am really interested in
knowing if the distance between the mounting flange and the slave piston
(when fully retracted) is different.

A strange question I know but in my SIII I have a SII/IIa gearbox along
with a V6 engine. When the PO first converted the machine it had a SIII
'box and associated hydraulics. Due to problems with that 'box, the SII
'box was installed. Clearly, the clutch operation is now via the SII
linkages however, I believe that the slave is still the SIII unit.

The reason for the question relates to the operating shaft. When I
needed to adjust the clutch a while ago I saw that the adjustable shaft I
expected had been replaced by another shaft that had been welded to the
operating fork. This new shaft is probably two inches or so longer than
expected.

So really the question is: Is the SIII clutch slave cylinder deeper than
that of the SII ?

Cheers,

Trefor.

Subject: ex-military SIII

Hi all

I have just bought an ex-military SIII LWB diesel which I am planning
to use on my Africa expedition this summer. My first (undoubtedly of
many) question is what are the 'standard' differences between civilian
and ex-military vehicles (this one is 12V)? It came already equipped
with two fuel tanks which is useful and a capstan winch on the front.
It was quite amusing when I went to fill her up for the first time and
couldn't find the filler cap!! Fortunately it didn't take too long for
me to catch on!

Cheers Ian

P.S. What is the correct address of the UK list these days. I am using
lro-uk@landrover.team.net.

I have talked to K&N reps who have told me that they know of no plans to
introduce a Disco filter. I've stated here before that I looked at the
Porsche Turbo filter and was not at all confident in the fit, especially with
the top of the Disco airbox.

Your statement about mileage confirms what I am seeing with my 5 speed 96
Disco, that you get better economy around 70 on the highway vs. 55 mph.
