This confused me beacause I always thought that the leak went from the
gearbox into the transfer box, not the other way round. Anyway I
remember reading something about the breather in the o/d unit in this
months LRO International magazine in the 'Drive Train' section. It may
be of use to you. Unfortunately I don't have the mag with me at the
moment to look at it.

It can go either way, gearbox to transfer box is more common.  I believe
it is related to the way the shaft was turned when it was manufactured.
