Date: Sun, 14 Apr 1996 09:42:05 GMT From: Gerald Tan <gtan@bbchw.demon.co.uk> Subject: Poo-poohing EFi breathing In the past, I've always listened to and poo-poohed the theory that the air passages in the plenum chamber of an EFi system would get blocked frequently, and need frequent cleaning out. :From time to time, I've sort of blown down the flame-trap breather tube in the direction of the plenum chamber, and satisfied myself that it wasn't totally blocked. Although it wasn't totally blocked, what I had was an asthamatic Range Rover! This w/end, due to trying to cure an oil leak that would occur at 85mph+, I removed the plenum chamber completely from the engine. Drilled out the core plug, and removed the ally breather tube. Wow! I can only describe it as the clear air passsage was 1/5th of the available area. The rest of the passage was gunged up. Cleaned it out using a drill bit, it's quite a complex path, it does a dog-leg around the plenum chamber, so it's prone to gunging up. You have to remove the core plug & ally tube to be able to clean this path out properly. Re assemble, take it for a test run down the motorway, and I have trouble stopping the car running away from me. I'm now having to back off the throttle to stop it going over 95 mph+!!, as opposed to before, where I had my foot flat to the floor trying to achieve this. Hopefully, it will have stopped my oil leak, as it was previously pressurising the crankcase excessively!. If you want the part number for the replacement core-plug, email me! Is it all organised by clubs? Also, are we allowed to advertise for private sale here? Steve, you should be able to get an automobile valuer and or
independant engineer from the "good old yellow pages" under VALUERS, or
ASSESSORS or you might try the AA. Or change insurance companies.

Most of the clubs do have rights of way officers who can provide members with details of green lanes but "organised" green laning trips are frowned upon by most - after all you should never really go green laning with more than four vehicles anyway. From the clubs point of view officially organised green lane trips have other implications - you should be aware that if you as an individual are proved to have damaged a lane you could be made responsible for the cost of repairing that damage. If a club has organised that laning trip then the club could also be held liable. There are also insurance problems involved as the event could not be held under an RACMSA permit. However, the clubs do provide a method of getting in touch with other like minded individuals and so green lane trips are often "organised" within the clubs on an informal basis. Most of the green lane trips I go on are arranged between members at local club nights, routes chosen, planned and then checked with the rights of way officers to check the routes current status. Bear in mind that this is MY understanding of the situation and these views may not be the views of the Y.R.O.C. Date: Sun, 14 Apr 1996 23:17:59 +0100 From: Dave White <davew@landie.demon.co.uk> Subject: Web Space I am trying to find some web space for the Yorkshire Rover Owners Club - depending on the space donated I would like to publish parts of our monthly newsletter and details/pictures of events. Unfortunately we cannot justify spending any of the memberships money on this project (yeah I know, typical Yorkshiremen) so I am looking for any kind hearted individual or company that may be able to help out. As part of this arrangement I may be able to place a free advertisement in the printed version of our newsletter. (Average circulation 400 per month) All material would be provided ready to go and could be maintained by club members, so this shouldn't mean any extra work for the individuals concerned. ---------------------------------------------------- Dave White.
