Hi fanatics.
I have a problemconcerning having tubes together with
BF - Goodrich 7.50x16 Track Edge. For every 3 month (ca.)
they just explode. Can i drive without tubes or what?
Thanks a lot.

The tyres are tubeless so it depends on your rims. If you have
standard LR rims you need tubes. If you have rims with a special
beam seat for tubeless tyres you do not need tubes. 8 spokes
can be used tubeless. Your tyre fitter should be able to
tell you if your rims are tubeless.

Tubes are not that cheap, you could afford to pay for new 8 spokes
in 6 months at this rate of deflation. Not to mention the
hazards of sudden tyre deflation, but I guess you must be quite
good at driving on flat tyres by now. Not a skill I would like
to have to learn (although I did do a good job of getting
round a roundabout on 3 wheels & a brake drum).

Could they be exploding due to rust / dirt between the rim or tyre
and tube? They should not be exploding like this.

Is this a common engine swap over there? I've never heard of it
done before.

Have fun, Steve

     Verner

I have come across this myself. The reason given was that the inside
of some tubeless tyres are ribbed. After a few months the tube and
tyre rub against each other causing the tube to burst.

As to whether you can run tubeless, you will have to check with a tyre
retailer whether you have suitable rims. I believe you can get
Trak-Edge Tyres in either tubed or tube less types.

PS: I notice that you have a Volvo engine fitted. This could lead to
an interesting dilemma, since in the UK some (if not most) LandRover
owners HATE Volvo drivers. My guess is that so long as you don't drive
like all other Volvo owners, your ok. A few years back the Top Gear TV
programme did a survey of what infuriated drivers most. I forget the
ratings other than the number 1 hate was being stuck in a traffic jam
behind a JCB. The article finished however with a comment that, if
you were elderly, drove a Volvo, towing a caravan, at a slow speed,
and wearing a cloth cap, you were a sad person.

I worked in Denmark a couple of years ago, close to the highest point in
Denmark (I think), 120m above sea level?, near Hovnso. Nice place, nice
people, bit flat! Not many LandRover's

     Cheers

You can get tubes for radial tires. Michelin makes a good tube
that has been used over here successfully for a while. Some other
brands have not done so well...

Hi Verner,

Your problem may be related to the kind of tubes you are using. All the
BFG TrakEdge tyres are, I believe, radials. Radial tyres eat tubes made
for bias ply tyres at very high rates because of the radial flex. Tubes
made for radial tyres are designed for this. If you cannot run tubless
on your rims, talk to your supplier about getting radial tyre tubes. I
use Michelins tubes and have had no problem for many years.

look at

http://www.geopages.com

they offer free homepages up to 1 MB. That should be sufficient, unless your
newsletter is as voluminous as LROI.
