I guess the American contingent have been having fun with their Tax returns - oh
goody we will have the same system in a few years I reckon.

The digests have been a bit sporadic, but I don't mind - better than nothing.

I personally have been busy keeping out of my wife's hair (exams). Going
greenlaning a lot seemed to do the trick - shame, but it has led to a couple of
late nights/early mornings when I have been digging myself out of assorted
Surrey mudholes and silage ditches (smelly one that).

I went to Bagshot last week - good fun but expensive - I'll marshall next year
cos they get in for free and have just as much fun, and am going to Boxgrove,
Chichester this sunday. Anyone else going there?

Regards to all

Richard Marsden's queries (those I can answer anyway)

>(I know sod all about the things)

If an in line fuel filter is fitted, replace it as you are probably sucking up
debris from the bottom of the tank (rust etc.) Check the filter bowl under the
pump for muck. Try draining the tank when it has a few gallons in it. Drain into
a suitable container, then pour through a coffee filter and repeat a couple of
times. If you can slosh the fuel around a bit when you have returned it to the
tank before redraining it will help to remove as much debris as possible.

Webers, IMO are not as good as a well rebuilt Zenith. Zeniths can be rebuilt
easily using a rebuild kit, as long as the spindle bushes are not too worn
(these can be replaced if necessary). The genuine workshop manuals have got
good instructions on rebuilding these carbs, alternatively there are carburettor
reconditioning firms around that than do it for you.

The weber carb allegedly gives improved mpg, but they do this by strangling the
engine and I have had to thrash the vehicle more to get the same power, which
really defeats this advantage. They also are not supposed to be as reliable at
extreme angles of dangle - but my nerve will give out before this I imagine.

Try disconnecting the fuel line as it goes into the carb, aim it into a large
jam jar or similar, then pump the hand primer to check all is well - you should
get a healthy squirt of fuel. If not the diaphragm in the pump is worn. Next
disconnect the HT lead at the coil, and get someone to operate the starter - if
you got a healthy squirt earlier, you should should do here - if not, the pump
rocker arm is worn.

Alternatively you could have a crack near the bottom of the pick up pipe in the
tank - try changing it for the other one.

a big amp would be handy - big big noise with less distortion

Definitely get everything proof ones

IMO not a priority

>(then civvie filler hoses can be added at a later date)

If you fit a LWB tank, you will have to connect up the civvie hoses as well. The
cutout for the filler insert is quite easy to fit - just follow the golden rule
- always cut the hole undersize then file out to fit. This is a lot easier than
the other way round. Yep I've been there.
It would be easier to remove the tank yourself from a breakers as you can then
get all the other little bits and measure it up at the same time.

>fuel capacity, and having the fillers on the same side of the vehicle
>(have you tried filling up, with fillers on opposite sides??? :-) )

While I think about it, check your fuel filler cap gaskets. They have a
tendency to dry out and crack - It won't improve your performance but would make
you a lot safer.

ah my favourite proverb - If in doubt hit it with a hammer. If that doesn't
work use a bigger hammer. If you are still having problems, read the
instructions.

Forget it

Good luck

Any problems I am sure there are many people out here willing to confuse you

Subject: Tracker Remoulds,A Warning

My '70 11A diesel is fitted with 205 16 Tracker remould radials.
Perfectly satisfactory in respect of rate of wear, ride, grip etc.
However, the N/S front tyre wore badly on the outside couple of inches
of the tread(the only reason I can postulate for this is four daily
journeys of three miles with three roundabouts. This town *loves* its
roundabouts).Whislt having a look at this tyre,I noticed that the
inward facing sidewall had splits in it.Tread wear I could live with but not
this!
Coming out of work last night I was presented with a flat N/S rear tyre.
Two horsehoe nails,as it happened.Whizz off down to tyre repair place,
and guess what?Splits in this inward facing sidewall as well.
There do not appear to be such splits in the O/S tyres, and the rears
were fitted some months before the fronts,on the changeover from Xply
to radial,so it is unlikely to be a bad batch.
I hasten to add that the replacement tyres are of the same pattern, but
those of you with these tyres fitted may like to get on your hands and
knees and have a look at the state of the sidewalls, just in case.
Bear in mind that the N/S is *supposed* to be the "light" side in terms
of weight,as well.Tyre pressures until recently,25 psi all round,increased
a couple of months ago to 28 all round, with,I think, some benefit from a
handling viewpoint.Pattern of useage mostly roadwork, with a daily trip or two
of about a half mile on a roughish farm track.
Cheers

I also spend a lot of time in various smelly silage holes in Surrey,
     we must compare notes.

          >fun,

For the first 3 years that Bagshot was run, I and a few others helped set up
and marshal the Bagshot show. A few words of warning. Some, if not most,
of the marshals do not keep to the agreed timetable for shift changes. On
more than one occasion I recall being stuck at a marshal point for hours on
end without the relief turning up. I hate to say it, but I think a lot of
people volunteer for the job, clock on, get the sweatshirt & f'off!

Most of the Marshal's volunteer for the off road coarse, which tends to get
overcrowded with people playing in the waterholes, whilst the sections off
the alpine track are the ones which require more tuition and guidance. Having
said that, we did get a lot of satisfaction form teaching (appreciative)
novice drivers how to tackle some of the sections.

On a more cynical note: Think of the profit Chris Jones is making, by not
having to pay or make a donation to the marshals.

Cheers
Glenn

Can someone post details of when, where etc. I know it's just
outside Brighton, but that is a bit vague!

I understand David Olley's Newconcept stand is the meeting point,
and messages can be left after purchasing an air lift jack :-)

I will try to get there, but perhaps not by my LR.

Thanks, Steve

I'm not guilty. I didn't unsubscribe you. In fact I haven't
unsubscribed anybody yet. I have bounced a few to the digest for
various misdemeanors like perpetually full mail boxes.

If anybody does get unsubscribed it is more likely to be down to a
temporary fault, so once you are online enough to realize you are
bounced/unsubscribed it is fairly safe to resubscribe.

I think your getting cut off happened a bit before I did - I have
no idea what happened. Feel free to resubscribe. The list appears to
have sprung into life in the last day or two.
