Check the end float on the intermediate shaft of the transfer box. This can
be done insitu through the bottom oblong plate.

]Date: Mon, 6 May 1996 21:33:48 +0200 From: lopezba@atnet.at Subject: Shopping spree in LR country Dear all, last week I was in the UK on an annual shopping spree. On Monday we went to Dunsfold, where Mr. Brian Bashall was kind enough to show us part of the collection (and we did not spend *that* much money, after all). We bought some parts for the SI 107" Station Wagon restoration project, and got some free advice. He also told us that somebody is trying to get him interested in a web site, but he hesitates to start that because "I would not know the people, and whether they are real enthusiasts or what". So if you find the time drop him a line and encourage him to get on the web - there should be some very interesting pictures of all his "firsts". The address is D L R attn. Mr. Brian Bashall Alfold Road Dunsfold Godalming, Surrey GU8 4PN Fax: ++44 1483 200738 If you go there to get parts, send them a list in advance and tell them when you will be there, this will help parts availability. The name of the spare parts manager is Glen Blakebrough. After Dunsfold we went to Yate to get some restoration things from Eastwood, and then to Hay-on-Wye to buy books so my wife has something to do while I fiddle with the Land-Rover. The next day we visited John Taylor, who had agreed to show us his restored 107" S/W. He has four or five S I's, and the day before our arrival had driven 300 miles to get a few valves for his latest project, an 80" fire tender that he was going to show this past weekend for the first time. Next we went to see Stafford Dovey, who had managed the impossible and got me a rear bulkhead for my Station Wagon - only about 290 were ever made for the UK, and only about 3,000 altogether, so finding this part was no mean feat. I can highly recommend him for all sorts of odds and ends. You would be better off writing, though, and telling him about your wishes. Let me give you an example - I bought a bonnet spare wheel mount from him last year, but he only had the round rubber blocks for the tire, so I asked him to find the rectangular blocks that are right for an SI. After a few weeks he sent me four by mail, at a very reasonable price. One of them was in its original wrapping, with two labels attached, so I wanted to keep it - Staff found another one for me, in exchange for pictures of my S/W. Oh, by the way, if you know of any 107" S/W, please ask the owner to drop Staff a line, he has started a Ten-Seater Register and is interested in vehicle data, pictures, history and whatever else is available. His daily transport is a 1956 107", and there are a few more hard-working Land Rovers in his yard. His address: L. Stafford Dovey 173/4 Acre Rd Carlton Near Newmarket Suffolk CB8 9LF Tel ++44 1223 290468 (no fax) If you call him, allow for plenty of time since he is usually inside a Land-Rover up to his elbows. Better to write to him, anyway. He is not geared for credit cards, by the way. Staff had problems with Land Rover, since he used Their Name In Vain (he called himself Land-Rover Specialist without being properly anointed by them). Now he is pretty much the most L-R-knowledgeable person I know, and keeps the legend alive - they should give him a medal instead of harassing him (not that he complains). After that it was a day birdwatching in Minsmere, and back to Vienna. So summer, fall and winter will be spent restoring, and next spring should see me ready for the big one - Iceland in 1997! From: ianc@witton.u-net.com (I Collins) Subject: 110 Suspension Date: Wed, 8 May 1996 17:25:16 +0100 Hello there, I have recently become the proud owner of an ex-military civilian spec. 110 hardtop, demobbed from Northern Ireland. I have a couple of questions that people on the list may be able to help me with: 1. The vehicle appears to sit lower on the passenger side than the drivers side and the effect seems more pronounced when viewed from behind. Is this normal (i.e. like a Series LR with different rated springs) or is there something amiss? 2. What's the best way to wire in auxiliary lighting and electrical equipment into the rear of the vehicle? 3. As a general query, what do other LR owners carry as toolkit and spares in their vehicles, just round and about not on worldwide expeditions! Thanks for any help you can give. Subject: Land Rover Digest
Surly someone out there has a problem they want to share with us (LR
related or otherwise). It is listening to other peoples problems, that
makes me realise how well off I am with only main bearing grumble,
rear axle oil leaks, low oil pressure, worn track rod end, rusty o/s
swivel housing etc. (the list goes on)
I have not seen any postings for over a week (30/4/96), and the main
list seems to have died completely.
