I'm in the market for tyres too. My SIII came with 7.50x16 Mud Terrain tyres.
As I haven't taken it offroad (yet), I'm thinking of choosing All Terrains
instead. Also, I'm short of money (Aren't we all?). Any recommendations
of cheap (but safe) tyres which would be suitable? Having never purchased
tyres would a high-street tyre supplier (Kwik-fit, Halfords/etc) be able
to supply something like this?
Shame I'll lose the military-hum, but I don't really want to replace tyres
every few months! Its in for an MoT - when I get it back later today,
I'm going to start rotating the tyres (the front appear to be wearing quicker,
and one of my rear tyres has a slow leak).

Got the fuel pump replaced. It runs how it did before, which is acceptable
(just before replacing, it really was painful), so I think a carburettor
clean is in order (when you see the eroded crap in the old pump, you'll
understand why!).
I have all-sorts of guides to doing this for the Zenith & Solexes, but
not the Webers. Do these overhaul kits supply *full* instructions?
(When I take it apart, I'm also going to end up learning how it works)

Also, (its a long story), I have a spare, new, unused fuel pump. This
fits the 2 1/4 engine, but does not have the sediment bowl & filter. The
make is AC, but the pipe connections are on the top and not the sides.
Anyone interested?

Richard

Irish Guards, and 10 years of Gurkas!

I understand they have differently rated springs due to the offset weight of
the Transfer box etc. Does it really matter, most landrover lean a bit.!

I have run a big (ish) feed and the relay'd the items, this enables you to have
less volt drop over the length of the vehicle. ie you can use thin wire to fire
the relays and one thick one to handle the current. (assuming you have more
than one high current device at the rear). I use this method to fire my headlights
as I have 80/100w bulbs. ie use the original headlight wiring to fire the relays
and rewire the last bit from the relay to the headlights in thick wire (and a
thick feed from the battery). This stops a 3-4 volt DROP!.

H/duty wheel brace
Jackall High Lift Jack
Socket set
Spanners / General tools
Test meter
8ton tow rope
Bow shackles
Nylon Tie Wraps (very useful!)
Paper towel
Grimex wipes (swarfega impregnated tissues)... excellent!
Umbrella (yes it always pi**es down when you have a problem doesnt it!)
Wellies
WD40
First Aid Kit (mostly for gashes done to myself!)
Leather and Plastic Work gloves
Plastic tape (electricians type)
Self amalgamating Tape (very expensive at 5:00 a roll). excellent for repairing
blown hoses (then covered with the plastic tape as it isnt that strong, but does
do a GOOD repair)
An old Towel
Kitchen Sink (only Joking)

Thats my list. I keep it all in the land rover all the time.
I find its the little things that get used most, tape and tie wraps. not forgetting the
cleaning stuff.

I am interested in what others carry... as you can never be fully prepared.

I have, actually, and seen and driven them (not on my own vehicle thankfully).
They're hard, heavy beasts and very loud. The only place outside Eretz I
know of where you can get them is Turkey and Cyprus. They also show up in
Greece occasionally. They're *very* cheap (of course...)

Cheers,

Stefan

Thanks for the reply Stefan, Since I posted this I have found a local tyre
company that has actually heard of them, and can get them for about 52
quid, not as cheap as you saw abroard. I do wonder if they are the same
tyre, I was supprised by your coment that they were noisy. These ones
have the standard sort of road type zig-zag pattern on the middle two
thirds, and a nobbly outer edge which only really comes into play if you
sink a bit.

Thank again for the comments.

Subject: re-building an overdrive

Hello there,

I'd appreciate a bit of help on re-assembling the synchro-hub for my overdrive.
What way around do the three sliding blocks go?

One face has chamfered edges and the other doesn't but is curved (convex)
over the entire face.

Do I re-assemble with:
	Chamfered face outwards
	&
Curved face inwards with curvature running around periphery
	of hub or across it?

Thanks in advance.
