From: "Tim Burt" <tim@muddyweb.co.uk> Date: Thu, 31 Dec 1998 08:15:35 -0000 Subject: Re: S11a V8 exhaust You could contact Jake Wright Conversions, they do a V8 exhaust system for an 88, it's about 175 ukp AFAIK. I made mine up from all sorts of bits of tube, 'cause mine is completely non-standard. But, I did use the following bits : Downpipes from a Stage 1 V8 (I think that these are about 1 5/8 inches) Main Silencer from a 110 2nd Silencer and Tailpipe from a 90 TD A Y section from Demon Tweeks And Lots of bits of old tube I found lying around the Frogs Island Workshops. My system is 2.25 inches for the most part and seems to perform quite well. It will make a pleasant sound but is still quite civilised, even at high revs. Hope this helps. Cheers, and a happy new year Tim Burt www.muddyweb.co.uk - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -[ <- Message 2 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 990101 -> | Search Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

If you fancy making the engine breath a bit more go for Headman headers (Real Steel, West Drayton.) Adds about 10% more power andmakes it spin more freely :-) Mick Dyer (doghouse@cix) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -[ <- Message 4 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 990101 -> | Search Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]
From: The Bickertons <Bickerton@compuserve.com> Date: Thu, 31 Dec 1998 15:42:03 -0500 Subject: S3/2A gearboxes Swapping is basically a straight job except for hydraulics. Even if you can only just afford it, change the whole hydraulic system (at least the lower pipe and the flexi) - they're b*ggers when they've been on a few years, and if it's all coming apart anyway...... Small point, don't know how relevant it is, s3/2a slave cylinder bores are different, giving different 'leverages'. I know the S3 slave says 7/8 on the side (coz I had it in my hand whilst bawling obscenities at all the aforementioned pipework for crossthreading *again*. Sound familiar, anyone? From: The Bickertons <Bickerton@compuserve.com> Date: Thu, 31 Dec 1998 15:42:01 -0500 Subject: 8-spoke wheels Reading about offset has 'set' (oh god) me thinking. About 6mth ago I changed the rear springs on the 88 and now the bump stops sit about 2ins away, unladen. Not good. That doesn't worry me greatly, but it was distressing to hear the tyres munching away at the arches (not the top of the wheelboxes) when I went over bumps at speed. Should I just be grateful that the springs move? Anyway, I got the tapemeasure out, and found that my wheels have more offset than other 8-spokes in Buxton LRC (free plug!), so they stick out more. While this looks better than the 205s on standard rims it normally lives on, it's making them munch. I thought that an 8spoke was an 8spoke was an 8spoke. I suppose I'll have to chop away at the arches with the ol' hacksaw. Making it look even more natty when the 205s are restored to their natural habitat. You can't win them all. As the front sits well I've considered extended shackles to level it up, but this isn't ideal. Anyone know where I can get some longer hangers from? (The tyres are 750x16 SAGs, on 7.5" 8spokes from Nene Valley 4x4 last August). Can't stomach the price Snap-On get for them here. Any sources over there (already called Teng tools) and Halford's. Please reply off-line as I am not subscribed to this list.
