Personally I would try to sort out those springs. There should be more than 2 inches clearance over the bump stops at rest. Try re-setting them. top of the axle and the bottom of the chassis member) I would suggest that the fact that they are sitting so close to the stops would also mean that the springs are not able to work properly, this will reduce the available articulation. Chopping away at the bodywork is all very well, but you will lose a certain amount of strength and rigidity from the body panels. The arches have a return folded all around the arch, and unless you are very talented, you will be hard pushed to re-produce this. There are obviously no structural issues, but the panels will flap around more and may be more susceptible to damage. Any LR spares place could do you extended spring shackles, get the ones for a 1 tonne Series 3. These will add a fair bit of lift. Just a note : (especially to keep Geoff happy) anything of this nature (i.e. Body panel mods, suspension mods, wheel changes) will almost certainly give your insurance company an excuse not to pay you. Make sure they know what you have done.
