Subject: D90 anti-roll bars

I wonder if any one can offer advice?

My D90 (1993) is mainly used for on road use (I use the
LtWt for the mucky stuff) so I was thinking of fitting anti-
roll bars to try and improve the on-road ride and handling.
Can anyone please offer any advice about fitting anti-roll
bars to a D90?
Where to purchase them from?
How much they cost?
How hard they are to fit?
I notice Simmonites have them for about 180GBP but I
don't know anything about them.

Thanks...

Steve

Loz, my insurance is through the Tadcaster office. I've no idea whereabouts
as I've never had to go but they don't seem bothered by the fact I live a
good few miles away.
The office manager/agent/whatever is called Tony Bowey and the office number
is 01937 833746. Unfortunately the girl who used to talk about my Landy by
name has now left but the people there seem to have the same, sensible,
attitude.
Cheers.
Craig and WSU266 the 1961 Series 2 truck cab SWB petrol.
P.S. I wouldn't go to your current insurer and 'not tell them' about any
mods, no matter how insignificant. This just hands them a reason to nullify
your insurance. Give NFU a call and when you mention mods, such as the
brakes, tell them you've used std. LR parts (if you have).

Since competing in a timed ti on Boxing day I have broken yet another half
shaft on my series 3 SWB. As I am hoping to do a full season of RTVs this year
can
anyone tell me if there is an easy solution to this problem. Is a Salisbury
axel more robust. If so is there a standard propshaft for this axel on an SWB.

I am also suffering from problems with 3rd gear it locks in until I have
stopped for a few minuites then releases sometimes when running in 3rd I can.t
change
the overdrive either. Can anyone recognise this fault or suggest a good
supplier of recon. Boxes

Hi steve,

To fit anti roll bars, you will need to get the brackets welded to the
chassis, and the fit the bars, so it depends if you think that welding
brackets is hard, the axle casing should have the right holes.

May I suggest fitting gas shock absorbers, as these have a simular effect as
fitting anti roll bars. I have fitted them to my Defender 90 CSW, and the
handling improvment was brillant, I now can throw it into corners, with no
worries. All the shocks do is firm up the suspension, but also soften it, it
is hard to discribe, I recommend them 100%

I fitted DeCarbon shocks, they are about £35 each, at the moment I have only
fitted them to the rear. Will fit them to the front in the end.

Any other questions please ask

Mark

Yes, it has bigger halfshafts and a stronger diff.

>If so is there a standard propshaft for this axel on an SWB.

Not that I know of, I had to get one made.

You will have to do a couple of mods to the axle to mount it on a SWB, the
spring locators need to be moved. It's not a difficult job if you can
weld.

The Series 3 Club has a reasonable price on boxes at the moment : 295 ukp
You need to be a member, but if you're not, the fee is only about 12 quid,
and it's worth it.

Contact the club on : 01543 424821
or by e-mail : landrover.series3@btinternet.com

Cheers,

Co-Incidentally, I have got a Salisbury Axle available if you decide to go
that way.

Has anybody heard of a company called

AAD Safari Ltd of Littleborough ?????

They claim to sell all types of LR's, find you anything, and ship it
anywhere in the world esp. USA.

I have never heard of them and therefore am suspicious.

Anybody got anything good, bad or indifferent to say about them ??

cheers

Well, they do have a web site at
http://www.hopwood.ac.uk/business/aadsafari/html/defend2.htm

You know how gullible us 'mericans are... we'll buy just about anything!

I'm always leery when I see the various ad in LRO/LRM/LRW saying they'll buy
old LR's in any condition. I guess they're fixing them up to some unknown
condition and selling them here and there.

I'm be more willing to trust you guys to help me locate what I really want:
an early '70's Series III Dormobile!

Welding's hard! I've got no garage or access to the gear
required. Everything has to be bolted as far as I'm
concerned.

I'll save up. That's cheaper than a pair of anit-roll bars as
well.

BTW one insurance company, when my mate said it had a roof rack on, asked if
it changed the height of the vehicle.

I'll second Mark's feelings about De Carbon shockers.
One of the first things I did to PKV was throw the standard anti-roll bar
away (which limits articulation off-road) and fit de carbons which I find
superb both on and off-road
usual disclaimers...

Gas shocks have certainly smoothed out the ride in the Rangie. I fitted
Monroe Gas ProMagnums fore and aft. The ride has certainly improved, and the
wallowing has all but gone and the cornering stability has improved beyond
recognition.

I'll try them on the LWt next.
