Subject: RE: Question on camouflage colors and patterns

Hi John,

I'm a member of the ex-military land Rover association, and I hope
that I can answer your question.

In the UK different regiments do what they like in regardes to Camo
patterns, with in, guidelines.

The majority of regiments in the UK use either all NATO green or a
combination of NATO Green and Black, which you will have seen, in pictures.

Now the ratio of green to black is about 3:1, this means that if the
whole vehicle is green then one third is black, roughly. These rules are
quickly broken when a squaddy gets a paint brush in his hands, your best bet
is to look at lots of different, photographs, and then you will get a good
idea,

This just about covers green and black, if you want to know about
other camo patterns then just ask, or the area of the world you would like
it to be, then just ask again.

I bet a 101 in Texas is a rare sight, have you thought about joining
the ex military land Rover Association. you can get alot of information
about all sorts of things.

Yeah - not sure who to ask though.... I dont know who there is in Hull with
a V8 really....

Again I have not identified one

Ho hum, anyway it looks like it might be sorted next week now, thanks again

Subject: Vehicle building question

With regard to the answer i got to a rang rover chassis carring a land
rover body and still on the log book as a range rover, will not the police
query the fact or do you need an engineers report. I thought only the
insurance compaies required those and rebuilt insurance write off`s. Alo is
it true that the body does not carry any points when swapping to another
vehicle.
Around the norwich area LPG is 35p a litre. There i also another way of
ruig cheaply use a fork lift bottle.

Mick. Soon to be on LPG

It keeps the same reg as the donor Range Rover but due to the massive change
in body type has to undergo an inspection by an inspector from the local
vehicle licensing office. This is free (apart from the amount of tea he
drinks) but he will require serial numbers for all the major components
chassis, engine, gearbox and axles so make sure you know where these are and
that they are readable.

I have a feeling that DVLA can also demand an engineers report....

Subject: Re: VED

>I have just read a report of a speech by Donald Dewar
yesterday saying the only way to reduce car use is to charge
tolls starting with M8 this year !! Article should be on

There you have it, the solution is to put toll stations on
the main roads to raise the required amount of income rather
than on the fuel or VED. This way, vehicles which would be
exempt from VED can also be exempt from the tolls on the
motorways. The associated traffic jams from the bottle neck
at the tolls will encourage people to use the fantastically
efficient public transport system which will be set-up by
the government with the profits, this system will include
secure parking at no charge for users of the service,
frequent services, provision for people with
wheelchairs/pushchairs, sandwiches which don't taste of
cardboard (on a good day) and a 24 hour service so you don't
get stranded in a little station in the middle of Wales with
no trains coming until the next morning.

LR content - Pre 1973 Land Rovers which are exempt from VED
at the moment could also be exempt from the road tolls,
although I can't imagine the government falling for that
one.

Subject: Overfinch Rangie

     Gentlemen,

     I've just been offered a "c" plate, 4 door Rangie with a 5.0 L
Overfinch petrol engine in it, with uprated suspension and anti roll
bars, full leather interior, electric windows and sunroof. The vehicle
is rust free and in excellent condition. My question is, is it worth
the 3.5k UKP asking price? and is it a good engine? I'm being offer
the motor through a friend, so I haven't even seen it yet, although my
wife has, and she seems to be keen, although I don't know why she'd
prefer that over her Vauxhall Nova, or my SWB SIIa.

     Jason

Hi
My friend in Japan rebuilds antique engines and such. Can you direct me
to somewhere I can find information about this Land Rover?

He wants to completely rebuild a Land Rover that he has had since he was a
young man. I have suggested to him that it will be imperative for us to
identify it before we start chasing down parts.
"The machine was evidently imported by a Japanese Land Rover dealer
because the name plates are in Nihongo. The only data we can find that
might be helpful are: Engine No. 17101545, Chassis No.
17160392 and Sales No. 1393. That last one just might refer to Japan sales."

Thanks
