Subject: RE: LPG CONVERSION

I have been quoted in the region of 1200.00 plus vat for a 60 litre lpg
tank to be on my 90 fitted in the cubby box area (where the battery is
situated) under the passengers seat by a Garage near Cheddar that is linked
with Central 4*4 in Birmingham (As advertised in LROI magazine).

I investigated this firm as about a year ago there was an article in LROI
about conversion to lpg. In this article a Range rover had a tank
installed in the boot for about 600.00, I enquired with Central 4*4 about
installation they quoted me 600 again but a tank in the rear of the 90

Obviously needing the space this would not be ideal for me so I enquired
about other areas that a tank could be fitted and the answer was that
different tanks could be fitted but due to the re-engineering at a cost.
I approached other garages that fit LPG and incidently they appear to be
popping up all araound the place! Generally the same argument was had ie:
at a cost.

It appears that LPG technology seems to be getting updated all the time in
the UK and 1200 for fitting a tank under the passanger seat seems ideal to
me, as no space is lost nor is offroading compromised. So as soon as I
get some extra funds I will be going for it and before you ask I don't
know where they are going to reposition the battery!

Subject: Rangie transmission slack

Hi all,
I have an early 2 door Rangie which seems to have a fair bit of slack
in the fron drive transmission. When stationary, the front
driveshaft can be rotated through about 45 degrees before drive is
taken up. The UJs seem good and the input to the front diff and the
transfer box is turning. When the shaft is rotated to take up drive,
the 'clonk' comes from the ends of the axles, behind the wheel hubs.
Where should I begin investigating, the diff, the half shafts, the
CVs or the transfer box, or something else? Any similar experiences
folks? Or is this just Rangie transmission for you ?

Cheers, Matthew

>power rate etc.

Err... Battery state usually measures the voltage across the battery.

Power meter... Power is ratew in watts... how are you going to measure this
with a varying load?...

Do you mean an Ammeter to measure the charge in Amps to or from your
battery?..

Voltmeters go across the battery,

Ammeters go in series to measure the charge or discharge.

Its your choice... volt meter is easier to wire up!..

Ammeter will require much thicker cables (to cary the current , maybee upto
60Amps)

have fun..

Quote -
' No vehicle, other than an emergency vehicle, shall be
fitted with-
a) a blue warning beacon or special warning lamp, or
b) a device which resembles a blue warning beacon or a
special warning lamp whether the same is in working order or
not.'

Where warning beacon is one which rotates through 360
degrees in the horizontal place, and a special warning lamp
is one which emits a blue flashing light.

As far as I can tell, there are no other regulations
concerning showing a constant blue light. If these 'blue'
bulbs/lamps/filaments carry an appropriate British Standard
marking then they have been judged by the BS authority to
comply with the requirements as set down, therefore they
must be legal.

This has brought up an interesting thought, although there
are requirements which the obligatory lights have to meet,
and also for optional lamps which are under the same
category, what if you have a lamp which doesn't fit into any
of their categories? The quote from the regulations is
'Every optional lamp, reflector, rear marking or device
fitted to a vehicle, being of a type specified in column 2
of the table below, shall comply with the provisions in
column 3.'
Now, if you fitted a lamp in such a position as it didn't
fit any of the categories, such as headlamp, sidelights etc,
then there are no direct requirements which it must meet.
There are general requirements such as no red lights to the
front and only red lights to the rear (except indicators and
reversing). There are obviously exceptions to these such as
emergency services/worklights etc. However there are no
requirements to colour at the front for an extra light not
covered by the requirements, as long as it's not flashing,
therefore it would technically be legal to fit a constant
blue light to the front of the car if you found an
appropriate position. I again stress I'm not advocating
this, and I'm sure the traffic police would take a dim view
and would probably get you for impersonating a police
officer, but it's an interesting technicality.
Of course, this doesn't apply to the blue bulbs, as if they
didn't have the BS marking, then they would be, in my
opinion, illegal as it would be a headlamp capable of
emitting a blue light.

Hello everyone,

I have a little problem with my LandRover and thought maybe someone could help.
I own a 200TDI Discovery with about 100000 km (62000 miles) on the clock. The
engine ran greatly so far.
But when I left the motorway (Autobahn) yesterday, the red lamp that indicates
low oil pressure lit up for one or
two seconds. I checked the oil but it was full enough. I had changed the oil
about 6000 km (3800 miles) ago
and do only use high quality oil.
So I wonder what the fault might be. Has anybody experienced something similar?
The electrical connections
of the oil pressure indicator are all okay.
Could it be that the oil became too hot since I had covered parts of the
radiator to avoid overcooling in cold
temperatures? The water temperature was not too high at least.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Greetings from Aachen (Germany)

	Michael Becker

It is possible to measure the voltage drop along a length of cable. It
would then be possible to switch it to measure the Winch current the same
way. Obviously safety makes good practice essential. The same meter could
then be switched to read volts, and with the benefit of a zener, provide
expanded scale between say 10v and 15 v.

And when its not doing that, make a swr bridge by feeding a wire along air
spaced coax for an swr meter on the CB. Anything else? temperature,
accurate fuel guage, rev counter?

Dear all,

I have a 2.25 petrol series 3, and would dearly love it to have just a
little more go. I have thought about a V8, but don't like the thought
of cutting (or paying for that matter). I have been told that I could
skim the cylinder head - but the engineering company did not know how
much to take off. Does anybody know how much to skim, or have any other
ideas on how to increase power?

Many thanks

Help. Off subject more than off road as it may be - are there any of the
computer wizzo's on the list who understand the secrets behind restoring
lost harddisks?

My company's main data drive crashed due to some quirk the other day,
the CPU managed to overwrite the boot and partition sectors without
damaging the FAT and DIR tables and data areas. Boot/Part can be
restored by Fdisking it, but this trashes the FAT and DIR tables.

Does anyone have a homemade solution for this one? (No I don't have a
back up of it all... Yes, That is stupid and unfortunate!)

Please reply direct as I've just unsubscribed for a few days.
