Subject: LPG on Ferries

Hi All

Just a question if anyone knows if they allow LPG converted cars
on Ferries.
When you board a ferry with a Gas bottle you have to tell them
the size etc.

If your car is converted then will they allow that on as well.
Even if the bottle in the car is empty there is still some gas
in it (I think).

Any comments....

Subject: Releasing spring bolts

Mark recently asked about releasing difficult spring bolts - When I did the
same job 18 months ago I used a product called ''Release-it'' made/supplied
by RS Components (I think) this stuff is at least 100x better than WD40 and
the such like.
I gave a can to another list member, he of the censored messages, Geoff -
and I know that he was impressed when he had a need for it. I don't think
that it's available in the shops, only by RS, I was lucky to find a can in
the back of the LR when I left work one day. :+)

If you are any where near Cambridge, Harlow or along that corridor I can get
a can to you, to see if it helps.

No. I can't remeber the exact wording. It was something like "Vehicles with
multiple fuel sources"

They didn't say no LPG conversions, it was more like no LPG, Coal, water, wind
powered machines.

Subject: 90 Air Can

When I fitted tha raised air intake to my SIII SWB, I swapped the oil bath
air filter for a paper element type as fitted to early 90s/110s. My
question is, should there be a rubber seal between the two halves of this
type of air canister?

Caravan LPG bottles are permitted in the tunnel. If I recall
correctly, notice says Max 50kg, properly secured and must be
switched off. I'd hope that LPG tanks on cars were as safe, if not
safer, than standard bottles so I don't quite understand the
reasoning.

I noticed that a few of the new Vauxhall range now come with dual petrol/LPG
from the factory. Are these allowed ???

No. The rules are quite specific. No LPG vehicles. You can however
carry a caravan bottle inside the car as long as it's declared and
they'll give you a nice little sticker to display.

Does anyone have a roofrack/tent combination they are looking to sell?
I'm looking into these kits to fit a 90 and have a catalog from
Brownchurch. It's good looking kit, but before I dig deep into my
pockets, I was wondering if anyone else on the list has bought this kind
of kit and is looking to sell it.

I spoke to P&O Stena, and for a dual fuel system, petrol/lpg, with a 100L
tank secured in the vehicle - strapped/bolted down.

They spoke to their Freight Department, who said that I had to turn the LPG
off at the tap - using a full tank was not a problem. But I had to notify
them on booking and also on the ship.

So. Have fun and Cheers for now

I have a brownchurch Galv rack for the 110, its definately not for sale.

Only to say that the quality is good, Dont buy any of these take to pieces /
self assembly racks, they tend to loosen up,requiring you to keep an eye on
them in rough terrain.

I have seen the South African roofrack on the '90 I think it was Decembers
LROi.
I saw it at Rogers... It really nice, expertly made, really nice Ally
welding.
The nice thing was the side canopy, I would have one tomorrow... Mmmmnnn..

Only bad bit was the sky high price.... but then again... It was really
nice..

Rolls Royce price... and quality to match.

 drool drool...

Brownchurch stuff is not cheap either... but very well made. Worth the extra
I think..

I put a slab of plywood on mine to stop me busting my ankle when walking up
there.
Its worth the effort. Also can stand and sit up there easily (I have bonnet
chequer plate as well).
It also give me a semi Safari type roof, and is a bit cooler in the summer.

Yes, this is sensible but the point I was making is, why
differentiate between the LPG tank in a car than that for any other
purpose. I'm not familiar with the valve arrangement on LPG-powered
vehicles but is there any real increased risk if the the car's LPG
supply were turned off at the bottle(s) (is this possible?) and the
car operated solely on petrol (not at all flamable as we all know!)
whilst in the shuttle?

I have just brought a Stage 1 that has had a diesel conversion
done to it. A Perkins engine was used but expired at some time and was
removed and skipped. The prob is I have a V* out of an sdi to go in it but
need a flywheel ,clutch, 2 exhaust manifolds and some engine mounts. Dose
anybody on the list have any of these parts they would be willing to part

They are down in Dorset, or I can bring them up to Abingdon.

Ferry from Holland to England is allowed, I have done it several times.
The tunnel is not allowed, also not if the tank is empty.

Geoff,

No, they can travel on the "open" (latticed) freight wagons. Gas must be turned
off at the bottle.

When you drive through the Tyne Tunnel in Newcastle you are directed to a
lay-by where you are asked if the gas is turned off, before you are allowed
through.
