Funny you should mention this, but last night "my wife and I" were
talking about changing the 109 for a coiler. Although she thinks it's a
good idea, as the 109 is cold , damp and noisy but we have not money, so
it'll have to wait a bit, unless anyone wants a 109 diesel?

It's nice to see that you've got the wheels back under your landrover - the
handling must have been fun when the front wheels were so far in front ;-)

Take care....
Its DANGEROUS (and exciting!)

I did it by mistake, then realised the usefullness.... like a propper
weedkiller, not like these stupid little garden flame throwers for weeding!

Take care, its not nice if it goes wrong.

I did have 150PSI behind the gun as well. 80% waxoil 20% white spirit.

I dont reccomend you try it.

My mate did the back X member in dulux or crown plus 2 gloss, It lasted
about 2 years and looked good,
cheaper than car paint. It gave a thicker, and more rubbery coat, but dont
have a rusty base as it seals it in...

Don't forget Limestone, even my son's Bronze Green 88" has a Limestone
roof and my 109" Safari would look really odd any other colour.

Gasoline has to pass two specs for Octane rating, RON (Research Octane
Number) and MON (Motor Octane Rating). The one most people are familiar
with is RON.
The minimum spec for the various grades is as follows:
4 star RON 97
Premium Unleaded RON 95
Super Unleaded RON 98

I use Ford Tractor (or is it Agricultural) paint, can be sprayed or brushed (I
brush). It's certainly good enough for a trialer and a road legal 86 that gets
well used. It even comes in a shade called Land Rover Green (there you are
Frank!)

As to filling up fuel tanks in odd places, it doesn't half confuse our
Sainsburys when I fill the RR on one pump and the trialer (on the trailer) at
the pump behind.

Don't rely on the factory applied double sided tape to keep it in
place, it won't, a thin film of red hermatite or silicone on the
cover and it stay's put, most of the time ;-)

Try a good camping shop.
Is it a genuine Tilley, I have an Optimus tilley lamp. and could do with
some new seals for the pumpetc, its 30+ years old, and still works well. It
just dosnt maintain its pressure.

Tilley are still in business making lamps (factory in Belfast I
think). Our local ironmongers keep the usual bits but I guess
yours' will likely be geared up for Coleman. We still keep 3 Tilleys
permanently fuelled up for the ocassional winter power cuts. Out of
interest, I think the price for a new lamp is about stlg60, worth
thinking about if you need major bits.

Try http://www.anchor-supplies.ltd.uk/ at Ripley I'm sure they had some
at the back of the main warehouse.

As for LR content, at there Nottingham place I believe they have some
various ex-army Landy bits.

Iain,

Thanks for the info!! No, mine is still paraffin, got it back in the '60s.
Just need the various packings, as the ones on my lantern have dried out and
are leaking.

Subject: Renovating leaf springs

Hi all...

I've finally got my act together, got a trailer, a tow and my chassis is as
we speak being blasted and primed by a bloke on a farm down the road.

This has got me refocused on rebuilding my little 101...

Next on the list is to get the chassis rolling again. One of the centre
bolts on a rear leaf spring has badly corroded and despite lots of
persuasion, refuses to leave the leaves. The nut is off, and the other end
of the bolt is stuck in the axle casing. The bit in the casing I can
probably drill out, but what about the bit in the leaves?

Also, does shot / grit blasting the leaves do anything untoward to them? It
was suggested earlier this evening that blasting stuff hardens it - which I
don't suppose does the springs many favours...

All the best

Cheers

Micky
