I'm looking for the drive-dog for an aeroparts capstan winch.

This is the part that sits on the end of the winch propshaft and has 6
holes in it. the holes engage onto a drive plate which replaces the
starter-dog on the end of the crank-shaft.

Any one got one to sell - or know of a place that sells parts like this?

I've been told by a specialist that welding the tank isn't a problem.
The way to sort the explosion problem is to flush it with a litre of
Carbon tetrachloride. This removes all the residue and the fumes. I'm
definitly not going to do it myself, but leave it to him as he's in
the next county and I can get out of range before he starts work :)

Does it record this data or only use it to identify different vehicles
for its monitoring purposes - ie does each pole send the reg. info back
to base or just the speed that a particular, but unidentified, vehicle
was doing?

Don't assume that our vehicles are necessarily safer than smaller
cars. Bigger, heavier vehicles do tend to be safer but, for
example, the Disco came out very poorly in recent crash tests,
primarily because of it's rigid chasis.
This may seem surprising but a major factor in increased crash
survival over the past 2-3 decades is the passenger safety cell
and crumple zones to dissipate collision forces.

Subject: New use for Hi-Lift

Another essential reason to keep a Hi-Lift in the back...
Programme last night on controlling elephant numbers in African
reserves and in the Kruger park they're fitting GPS collars to keep
tabs on them. Dart the animal from the air and fit the collar, easy
of course!.
The problem.. how do you lift an unconscious elephant's
neck high enough above the deck to fit a large collar? Their
answer.. use a Hi-Lift jack. Seemed to work fine.
?LR content? An elephant weighs the same as two 110s.

Yes it does! It is derived from the system used in the City of Westminster "Ring
of Steel".

I.e. a ring of cameras read number plates of all traffic entering and leaving
the centre of London. Vehicles are logged in and out. Suspect plates are flagged
and ploddy is alerted to check them out.

Of course traffic master are going to deny the system was set up to act in a
similar way, but then BT deny getting around 50 million quid a year for their
services to MI5 and MI6.

There is a lot of evidence to suggest that there is a National network in the
pipelines, similar to the national facial recognition system being used on CCTV
cameras.

There is also a suggestion that they could be used as a new form of speed trap,
although this is just a rumour.

Well, I'm off to get my phone de bugged now, no doubt the Snoopers at RAF
Menwith Hill or GCHQ (hello chaps) have picked up this mail because it mentions
key words like MI5/6. We shall see.

The recent discussion on blue things has prompted me to let everyone know
that the ol' smoking turbo 90 has now got the 300tdi under the bonnet. It's
been there nearly two weeks now and I'm a bit concerned about the following
-

1, The needle in the large dial in the dash - goes up much quicker
2, The needle in the dial next to this - goes down much slower
3, I seem to have this silly grid on my face when ever I drive it.

Is this normal???

Thats the great thing about a series LR. It's specially designed to

I had similar thoughts. The Merc A-class I think got one of
the best results for it's wonderful crump-ability (?) so if you have
time to pick out a target, choose the Merc! Wouldn't have thought
the technique would work with a concrete motorway bridge support
though!

What size battery should my 110 V8 have in it? The owners
handbook says Designation 190/84/90 but what does that mean?
How many Ah and what maximum current?

Obviously the previous owner changed the battery before he sold it
to me. It looks big enough for a Mini!

I am so happy to be a LR owner again. This morning my wife
flooded the engine by pulling the choke right out and then turning
the starter until the battery was empty. So in a temp of -10C I got
to unscrew all the plugs, clean them up and then put them back in.
What fun!

I'm a Discovery owner who likes driving in the Scottish Borders. I have a
cottage there which we are now letting for holidays/long weekends etc and
which is near Ronnie Dales Off Road course near the border. Details of the
cottage can be found at http://members.aol.com/sasq944634/index.html but I
can also email some details to you if you can't get on to the www.

I'm also looking for a centre console for my discovery- a J Reg 200TDi- beige

In a word ... yes.
At least for me it is. Mine came off the banana boat 4 years ago this past
Monday and is still a daily joy. Hearing the turbo whistle as we pass
through 1800 r.p.m and fly up a long climb can even be LOL. However, have
learned to keep it to myself a bit more, and have (almost) stopped making
uncomplimentary comments about the type of oriental things that co-workers
drive. It doesn't endear one. BTDT.
But perhaps it was worth it - one of them has heard the message and has a
110 ready to be shipped out from the UK!
Keep grinning
Allan.
