Subject: Non-BMW stickers and tracking

At Billing last year I got 3 Non-BMW stickers from some children that were
selling them. They were located near the Fish and chip shop - although I did
see a lot of series vehicles with this type of sticker. On my 2a I've got
0% BMW parts on the back door, and on the side windows of the hard top The
best 4x4xBMW parts free.

They appeared to have been made by a standard banner/label machine, nothing
too complicated, I think that the engineers on site here have a similar
machine. If you have trouble locating any one else that can do it, drop me a
note and I'll see if they can do one for you.

On a different note - I'm having a real problem of getting my tracking
checked, I'm running 267/75's and every garage I've been to says yes they
can do them but their equipment never fits. Does anyone have any ideas how I
can get it checked, ie Light commercials must have their tracking checked,
or do I have to stick the original wheels on?

Lastly - I noticed that Frank didn't have he's usual spot on LRO, and I
haven't seen any of he's messages recently - I trust that he's Ok???

Subject: Tracking

Hi all

Tony Davidge was querying where to get his tracking checked,
Not sure if its any help, but the garage that does my car is a 50
50 split between Trucks & cars, and their tracking equipment
(rods & threads, no computers/lasers here) is I believe used
on both.. They are (like me) near heathrow, and are pretty friendly.
I'm drinking with one of them tomorrow night, I'll get more details
about it then..

Well done Adrian. Knew you were hooked of course!

We hear a lot about car prices often being much lower elsewhere in
Europe than in the UK and there's a growing trend for folks here to
buy from continental dealers, saving several thousand UKP in some
cases.
Not that we're likely to want to replace ours but purely out of
interest, do you have any idea how LR prices in Scandinavia compare
with those in the UK market? UK prices are in the back of LROi.
These include 17.5% VAT and uk-car tax ( ? %) and, I think, possibly
our stlg150 road fund licence.

What about elsewhere anyone?

Regards,

Iain

I usually take my 110 to a lorry garage. They never have any problems with
their equipment being to puny for Land Rovers.

The Defender 110 County Station wagon costs in Denmark kr. 167,000 plus
duty plus 25% VAT and a few thousand kroner to register.

For a private person such a vehicle (including duty) would cost
kr.320,000 plus VAT in Denmark.

I am able to register the vehicle duty free, (due to a special paragraph
in the Danish motor taxation laws which allow handicap institutions,
orchestras, travelling theatres and film/tv crews to register a vehicle
tax-free. To be eligable the vehicle must be classified as a bus - 10 or
more seats - which normally requires a special PSV driving license - but
once correctly registered, you are allowed to remove enough seats to
bring the seating down to an ordinary driving license (8+driver). The
vehicle must be specially equipped to house the equipemnt which you
travel with, and you must only use it for work. (Hence my keeping the
109 and the 88's for private and other business use).

As businesses can deduct the VAT this makes for a reasonable purchase
price.

Besides being a somewhat "emotional investment" this is also a sensible
business deal - it rids me of vehicles in my company the mechanics of
which i do not understand and do not wish to work on myself - it means I
can save a lot of money over the years on service bills. That is another
reason for making this investment now, whilst the serviceable 300 Tdi is
still available in Denmark. And many items which I only need
ocassionally - like winter tyres - can be common to all my vehicles.

Because of the price and the registration status, we will use this car
solely for business - mainly for location shooting - the rest of the
time it will be kept indoors under warm dry conditions - so it should
last a very long time.

And of course it's a Rover!

Hi
Another zenith is a good bet if you can get one, failing that a weber
from craddock, paddock or local weber dealer is also good. I've got
a 1.75 inch SU on an Automotive components side-draught manifold.
Its excellent but not a straight swap. Have a look at
www.gowerlee.dircon.co.uk they are carb specialists and will probably
be able to advise you better and sell you a new zenith or recondition
yours.

Hope this helps

The prices for the four models sold in Sweden is currently:
90 PU 198.500 SEK
90 CSW 222.750 SEK
110 CSW 233.250 SEK
110 HCPU 207.300 SEK

All prices including VAT (25% ?). I'm sorry but I'm too lazy to convert that
into GBP's or Euro or whatever.

Subject: Diff. ratios

I know we've discussed this before, but I haven't archived it.

What are the ratio's of the differentials - both the standard roiver
type and the salisbury type.

What difference is there between a 109" SIII front axle/diff and a 88"
SIII front axle/diff (are they interchangeable?)

I am thinking of laying a spare front axle in stock so that
servicing/rebuilding doesn't disable the vehicle for several days or
weeks (I normally service these when I do a frame up reconditioning, and
with cleaning and painting, and "time off" for doing proper work in
between this means the axle is dismantled for several weeks at a time)
but I want to know if I can rotate one spare between my three SIII's
(one 109 and 2 88's)

I already have a spare 109 rear salisbury on stock.

I finally took the plunge and brought myself some tyres. I got them from
Cradocks. There not bad, slightly too road bias for me. certainly not an M+S
tyre but not quite a track edge. Still there do.

Now I've got that out the way and a new softtop coming, Ive got the bit
between my teeth.

I want to paint over the rear cross member, Just rub down and hamerite
it???????????

Also I want to get a rubber mat for the load bay. The Land Rover ones sexy
but costly. Can anyone suggest anywhere I can get rubber matting cut to load
bay size??

Lastly, The 90 is Trident green, A nice solid color to paint. Its been
suggested that I can hand paint it and it comes out OK. Advice would be
grateful. I've got the doors and rusty bits to do.

Thanks

There's an industrial hose-specialists in Dundee who also sells
various grades of sheet rubber. Comes in 3' and 4' wide rolls,
various thicknesses and with/without textile re-enforcing. Sold by
the square metre. Look in yellow pages under Hose Manufacturers.

It must be the time of year; just replaced the Spitfire (not the most ideal
family vehicle) with a 2nd hand Disco. I managed to persuade the dragon to
let me keep the 90 though, with a mixture of cast-iron logical reasoning and
kicking my legs and screaming. I learn't this last technique from carefully
observing the Boy in action; it always works for him...

Yes!

The user has probably left the company and his account has been deleted, without

Here's a question for the pub.

If you were buying a new defender (110 CSW) and didn't want to wait 5
years before taking it apart - what parts - in the light of your
experience - would you modify/repaint or treat5 in some way or another
before driving the vehicle?

I have already decided that the stock paint job on the rear cross ember
has to go - and seeing that it is already (ratherbadly) underseal
protected - it will have a new underseal job (I know I'm a black paint
advocate - but you cant steam clean properly without an entire
stripdown, and I'm not doing that this year!

Any other words of wisdom?

And can a coil-owner still drink in this bar with all the series folks?
I don't really want to have to go into the saloon with the discos and
rangie types - my hands and shoes are too dirty - and likely to remain
that way!

Cheers!

Please answer to my regular email dg5dbv@qsl.net or to
the list.

I´am running a 1976 Landrover 109 Diesel (2,25l). The engine
had a rebuild 30.000km ago. They told me than in the future
the injector pump and the injectors maybe need a little tuning.

The truck had regular oli changes (6000Km) and readjust of the
tappet clearance (all 6000km or 4 month.
In the last Time I notice a little bit less power and more smoke.

The first think I will check is the Tappet clearance. And there
is a open question:

The manual (green bible) says adjust the clearance at Valve No. x
with No y fully open. My method is to look an turn the engine with
the starting handle. When I think the valve is full open I adjust
the clearance (with a 0.25mm blade). I do this twice to avoid errors.
How do you find out if a valve ist open ?

Who knows a good (Landrover)Diesel engine specialist to check
and tune the injector pump and the injectors ? (I would prefer
Germany or UK)? (its a 2,25l engine

The other question I have is: Are the 110 FFR (if there is such a
car) also pure 24V ? Or have this trucks also 12V (maybe for engine)
? How to identify a FFR from the outside ?

Bye bye
Oli

I think you're barking up the completely wrong tree, check out your friends in

LandRover only household? Me too. Two SIIIs (one a LWt) and an early EFi
Range Rover. Gluttons for punishment, or what?

There's so much oil on the driveway, that I expect a visit from Exxon or BP
soon.

Mind you, our neighbour's even worse. A 90, a Disco and a New Range Rover.
The 90's just for his dogs - working Spaniels. In the village there are two
S1s, another SIII LWt and several Hi-Cap 110's.

I've seen more Range Rovers appear recently (including a very nice looking
TDi). We used to have a chap in the village, who always seemed to drive the
top of the range Rangy and his wife always seemed to have totr (top of the
range) Disco. Turned out he was MD of Land Rover UK (Michael something) (now
moved to Worcestershire); our daughters (aged 9-10) used to play together
(up to last year when they moved away).

A friend of mine (with a small holding - he grows chillies) uses an old
ex-army 109 (he used to be a para). I helped to rebuild a 194x SI belonging
to a local landscape gardener.

The farm next door seems to have no LRs at all.Several other farms close by
have more than one. It evens out.

When I give up computers and take up farming (can't happen soon enough) I
will have at least 3 to start with.

If you want to get a nice finish, then make sure the paint is really warm
before you start painting, i.e. leave it in a sink full of warm water for a
long time, or on a shelf over a radiator overnight.
The other thing is to use a roller rather than a brush, I got a much better
finish with the roller than with the brush, it's also quicker. Obviously you
have to touch up the fiddly bits with a brush.

pink rules the world .....

Between the '95 Discovery, the Series III (daily driver until it hits 115
degrees F), a SIIA 88" SW and a Dormobile, there always something to do at my
house. Good thing my soon-to-be-x-wife isn't here. I don't think she'd like

have the table that I really need in there!
