I suppose there are too many old Land Rovers out there, and they can only

period.

Not to worry... What problems are you having Wendy?...

As far as I am aware they are captive bolts, unless you have "unfixed" them

If they are free nuts, I would tend to hack them of with a 3" Air driven
Angle grinder (Best tool I have)

Subject: Shocks and springs

For being a good boy at work I've been given a small end of year bonus -
before I spend it on useless items such as food, bills, rent etc I was
thinking of changing my shocks and springs. But firstly I have a few
questions to the list regarding ride and handling.

In the past people have commented on 'decarbon' shocks, how are they better
or different from the standard?

With the availability of after market springs does anyone have any comments,
or suggestions about harder, softer springs or extra lift?

And lastly are the 'handling' kits advertised of any real benefit?

All comments gratefully received, although practical experience preferred,
especially ease and length of time for fitting.

Many thanks Tony

The 12 seater may well be different but on the 9/10 seater the 4
individual rear seats are mounted with bog-standard
bolts/washers/nuts through the floor, i.e. no anchor plate. A two
man job to remove (unless you've *very* long arms :-) ) The seat
backs are attached to separate frames bolted through the floor in the
same way but also firmly secured to the side at about capping level.
Never had these off so no idea how they're attached at this point.

Iain

That's what I also assumed and, if so, the MOD must have a
dispensation? Must be someone on the list who knows the answer.
Not that I think I'd fancy having a spare mounted there anyway.

Iain

There was a case last year in Scotland. An A&S highlanders squaddie was driving
a little bit quick round a corner in the middle of a town. Being new to the wolf
he didn't realise that the wheel could potentially hang out over the curb, until
he heard a dull thud. The inevitable had happened, wheel, a little close to the
curb, bloke a little close to the road, and the two met, law's of physics took
over, bloke lost.

Most spare wheels in wolves (Highlands Division) are now on the bonnet or inside
the vehicle. I believe the reason for putting the wheel there in the first place
was because the bonnet had not been strengthened enough, even though the
fittings were there to locate the wheel.

Bizarre..
Orlando...
93 Disco Wheel on the back.. nice and simple.

Adrian, you should know better! It's a Land Rover you're talking about!

Please be more specific?

Sorry to be picky, but what sort of use do you put the vehicle to. Is it
an off-roader or an on-roader ?
If it's an off-roader, what sort of off-roading is it.

I'm asking because it's really easy to get it wrong if you're changing to a
non-standard set-up.

Cheers,

Tim Burt

Need to identify my free-wheel hubs so I can order some spare but the LR
is at home.

It's a '73 S3 LR, the hubs are about 5" long and are tapered with
flutes along its length, there is an inset cap on the end to change from
2 to 4 wheel drive.

Can anybody help with a make for these from the description above?

Thanks

Andrew

Danke für den Hinweis. Ich bin nur seit 6 Wochen Land Rover Besitzer
und bis jetzt habe nur Erfahrung mit DM-Landrover Service.

Ich wird ganz gern eine List von andere “non-franchise dealers”
bekommen. Auch Bemerkungen über Preis und Zuverlässigkeit wird
helfen.

Danke!

Sorry about that. I meant to send that last German message
privately but pressed the wrong button. It wouldn't be so bad if it
was good German but unfortunately it wasn't! Like I said - sorry

Can't help with a make, but your description fits std LWB free wheeling hubs.
