Who cares anyway... If you want a nice shiny bright 4x4SUV then buy a
Japmobile. (or a company 110CSW)

I havent washed my 110 for at least 18 months, and the LightWeight for 15
months. Washing and polishing sounds like hard work... and I dont want to
do any of that!. (Just spray it underneath with waxoyl)

Us Land Rover Drivers Pose just as well in a battered 30 year old S11a, and
dont give a fig about it!.

Third Owner?... Both of mine are on their 7th and 8th owner. (15 and 24 year
Olds - The Landies that is!)

I must admit the only chickens I have in the back are usually deep frozen
from the supermarket!.
I wouldnt mind a couple of 24 year old birds though!.

The whole "thing" about Land Rovers is they are 1940's technology, and
everything is replaceable. evey panel, nut and bolt right down to the
chassis. If it wear out or gets busted... replace it, with new or second
hand (with exceptions for Brake and Steering parts).

Tongue in cheek......

Whatever you do,beware of Green Flag.If my daughter's experiences with
them are anything to go by they arent part of the solution, they are part
of the problem.Example: 1 litre Metro wont start in the morning.GF attends,
puts a charge on the battery, starts the car, then tells her the fanbelt is
loose, which is why the battery is flat,says..wait for it...that it needs
three days in the garage (their garage) and that's *if* they can get the
spare parts. With that,he buggered off into the sunrise *leaving the fan
belt loose*!
It would seem that the so-called "advantage" of them using local garages,
means you very much take pot luck.At least the AA and RAC train their own
people.
This BTW wasnt the only example.

What's the best exhaust paint for a rusty but wirebrushed exhaust?

How does Aluminium paint do - I ask cos Al in contact with steel corrodes
away, so maybe hte paint would act as a sarificial anode, protecting teh
steel?

Up here where I live if you call out the AA, RAC, GF or any of the others the

Mike,

I agree - I used Britannia Rescue, just as bad. I warped the head on my old
J reg Granada on the motorway. Took 2 hours to come and get me, then they
spent an hour trying to fault it - declared NO FAULT FOUND and sent me
packing...2 miles later the temp. gauge was off the scale. I discovered that
she would run100% at any speed under 50...so I took her slowly to a friends
garage...where he swore lots at what damage had been done due to their
mis-diagnosis!

Sods - the lot of them. The AA don;t like it if you tell them what is wrong
and the guy I had deliberately checked EVERYTHING else on our old Pony
before checking what I'd said the fault was. And then he got it ******
wrong! The timing was out - anyone could tell! Ah well, and to top it all,
you all know my Exploder is smashed, well when I rang the RAC, they told me
my cover had expired - very embarassing, as I was in the cop car, and when
that was sorted they levied an extra charge for the vehicles size and the
fact it was 'offroad'! About 3 bloody feet offroad. They had to use
'Special' Equipment - I they winched it off the hedge - nothing the standard
recovery vehicle is'nt fitted with was used?!

Ah well, see you later, I suspect Ford are going to insult me and give me a
Ka to drive, or at best a Focus...I'll never live it down, of course I could
put the Ka in the back of the 109" as a spare!

Just heard a 'storey' (sorry) about the multi-storey they've recently
dug (it's basically underground) in Norwich - may with something like
jacked-up hi-lux got in easily enough but couldn't get out again. Had to
resort to letting a lot of air out of the tyres to lower it down ...

I think I'd have charged them for the hassle ... either the clearance is

Hmm Green Flag didnt get a good write up on Watchdog last night.
However the man from GF did do a superb PR job for his company.

I'm (sorry) I am with the AA.
The wife was before we were married, she pays the subs, and wont change.

In that time I have called them 3 times,
1. Wheel came of the 18 month old caravan - 20 min wait, on a bank holidat
Sunday evening - low loaded home, good service.

2. hot spot fellinto the engine on the 2.5 NA D 110 (hence My 200Tdi
engine) - 40 min wait - Sat lunchtime -Towed home by aa AA Disco (Full
street cred, ariving home towed by another Land Rover (Disco)

3.Clutch flexi hose rubbed thru and split in Cornwall. Man arrived in 30
mins. Took off the exhaust, and other bits, extracted the pipe, disappeared,
took 40 mins, back with new Lockheed pipe which was heaper than a genuine LR
part. Fitted it and no charge other than the cost of the part. Total time 4
hours in Trago Mills Car park Cornwall.

I have had good serevice from the AA. I must admit I am not happy about
their Anti Green Lane stand, but the wife pays so I shut up!.
If I paid it would be a different matter.

He (she) who pays the piper calls the tune.

And they get to scene much quicker, by at least an hour in my uncontrolled
experiment.
A little hose had blown on my 110, dumping all the water on the M6, I pulled
onto he hard shoulder behind a Transit van, coincidentally with a similar
problem. I used the emergency phone to contact the RAC, and had tow explain
my card was on the kitchen table. No problem, was told they would have a
man with a van there in an hour. Passed the time of day with the occupants
of the Tranny, they had phoned the AA the best part of an hour before I
arrived. About half an hour later the RAC van arrived, looked at the
problem and said "That pipe's burst - I've got the thing for it in the
back". Ten minutes later he is sorting my paper work out when the Tranny
driver bangs on the door saying something like "AA can't come for another
hour, and are asking if you can fix it?". Not too sure what the RAC man
said to the AA call centre, but we both backed up the hard shoulder and left
in a cloud of diesel exhaust, my 110 leaving the RAC Tranny a fair distance
behind until I reached cruise velocity...

I must admit there is usually something wrong with it, it never seems to
pass an mot, but it has never failed to get me home...... (It once failed to
get me somewhere but it wasn't important and I could have got there cos the
oil was not comming out toooo fast.... :-()

I'm even managing to convince Marie-Anne we must keep it..!
She will never go to South of France (with caravan) in it ever again.....BUT
One day we may not be able to get to the field in her car........! Snow etc.
neddy will starve.
So she puts up with it. BY the way I'm completely mad and in my own opinion
should have been certified years ago. She thinks I'm worse than that..!
Oh sod it..Does anyone want to buy a work horse.
250,000 miles (never raced or rallied).
Only the saddest people own more than one Landrover....I want a fire

I think it's fairly safe to say that most of us breakdown quite a lot, not
to mention our LR's :-))

Seriously, I'm sure most of us suffer breakdowns, but we generally get the
vehicles going again with a minimum of fuss, ok a lot of fuss, swearing,
skinned knuckles etc, but we do get going. Personally, I've got breakdown
cover for the times when it's raining and I've got white jeans on :-))

The only exception to this was when a throttle cable snapped on the motorway
and (silly me) I didn't have a spare in the glovebox. The guy was there
before I got off the phone convincing the stupid bint on the switchboard
that I knew where I was without getting out and checking a lamppost . It's
amazing how quick the service is when you've tell them you've got a
wheelchair in the boot.

Only break down when I've got no tools with me (sod's law) so I carry always a
toolkit and never break down in return. Last time on of my cars broke down I
had no tools, but the bugger brought me just about in front of the lock up
(petrol pump duff) but wasn't to be convinced to drive into the garage so I
had to pour petrol into the fuel line to fill the bowls up.

Not that I'm a reactionary old fart by any means - but of late I have
noticed that this list is being treated by newcomers as if it were a
newsgroup, where 80% of all postings are nothing but a verbal diatribe
at the other contributors.

There is room for difference of opinion on this list - for example -

Many consider TeriAnn a precision fanatic when it comes to engine
details
Many consider me a loony for keeping my chassis cleaner than my bathroom
floor
Many consider Frank a tad funny about colours
And no-one can agree on whether to use oil, grease, goosefat or cowdung
in their swivels.

We usually manage all this disagreement and friendly jibing without
having to resort the words like jerk, a§§hole, idiot or Jeep.

I enjoy free speech, but often wonder at the ease with which people
resort to the lowest common denominator. It's not the language which
gets me, its the ramant disrespect for diverging opinion.

OK, tell me to stop preaching, I'll get back to my 109" (LR intent)

Subject: AA Vs. The rest (was utter madness)

Frank,

I appreciate the point and I don't agree with the AA's attutude towards
greenlaning (of course!), but the scale of economics dictates that, as I run 3 -
4 vehicles, I only take out 1 recovery policy for all of them. If the RAC or
anyone else for that matter, offered the same cover, rather than one policy for
each vehicle, then I would switch over immediatly. As it is I pay approx. 70
quid for year round recovery, rather than 300+ quid. If you know of anyone else
that can match that, I'll sign up.

Cheers
