Yes I am willing to consider any alternatives.  The only ones I have seen
here are a gm straight 6 installed to the stock LR transmission via a
adapter from Advance, and a complete v8 powertrain swap (with an automatic
transmission).

If anyone has pointers to magazine articles, books or catalogs of parts
for any of the swaps, that would be wonderful.

This sounds very intrigueing, does "Jake Wright" sell conversion kits
for this swap?  Perhaps I could inquire.
