Hi TeriAnn, I'm afraid I can't tell you anything specific about your LR, but I can give you one or two hints: > It has a decal of a LR 88 on the screen that is in spanish. It's not (for some strange reason) a Santana is it? These were LRs made under license in Spain, which were always bizarrely different from the `official' factory spec. > 1. It was on a famous expidition along the length of the continent in the > early sixties {I remember reading & seeing TV clips about at least one > such Land Rover expidition around that time}. Which explains why it was set > up as a long range camping LR. I'm afraid this is unlikely. The first full length trip along your continent was carried out by Bashford-Snell in two Range Rovers shortly after their launch in 1970. The difficult bit on this journey is crossing the so-called `Darian Gap' in Panama, something which a Sherman tank would find difficult and which the RRs were hardly up to. All sorts of things went wrong, and eventually an old 88" was airlifted in to help them. If you are really keen on knowing the history of your LR, you could try writing to Land Rover Ltd. at Lode Lane, Solihull, West Midlands, UK. > Is anyone going to either the Portland or Palo Alto British car meets? I am in the Bay Area for one week in September. Can someone tell me when the Palo Alto event takes place? Ninety Update: Well, I finally (after much haggling) have a brand-new V8 engine in my 90. It's much better than the last one, although with petrol now at 2 pounds 15 pence (that's $3.65!) a gallon its getting more expensive to feed by the day! The warranty claim must have just about wiped out any profit LR made on the vehicle too! Simon Lewis, Bristol, England.
