     Alan,

   I did this a couple of years ago, so I can speak from experiance. Just drill
  then out, no sweat. Suggest you sandblast the backing plates and repaint with
  a good primer and epoxy paint too. I have a sandblast cabnet you can use if
  you want. 

   Did you see my coments re Chevy engine swaps? 

   My Rover is in the parking lot today, with its original Rover engine, by
  the way.
