Hi I'd like to find out more about the 2.5 L 300TDi diesel engine for the Discovery and Defenders. Anyone out there with any experience with the engine? - durability - reliability of the turbo unit - fuel consumption (I've something like 1,000 kms to a full tank of diesel) - highway towing ability Thanks ------------------------------ From: "jean gruneberg" Date: Sat, 12 Oct 1996 12:21:59 +0200 Subject: Re: Durability of the 300TDi diesel engine? It seems to be a very good engine, but it has only been around less than 3 years. The turbo should outlast everything else but depends on good oil, specifically SHPD grade, and turbo engines in general must have the recommended maintenance. Expect around 30mpg. Towing/hill-climbing are a joy once the engine speed is above about 2000rpm, but a bit of a dog below 1800 - I fitted a rev counter in the 90.
